Inaugural lunch to be Feb. 20
Plans (or the inauguration of ACU
President William J. Teague include an
inaugural luncheon Feb. 30 in the Great
HaU of the Abilene Civic Center said John
Duty director of university events.
Justice Jack Pope senior justice on the
Texas Supreme Court will speak at the
luncheon said Duty. Pope an Abilene
native has been honored by ACU as an
Outstanding Alumnus and has been
awarded an honorary doctorate degree
from the university. He is a member of the
Board of Trustees.
About 68000 invitations to the
inauguration and the luncheon have been
sent to parents friends and alumni of
ACU Duty said. Luncheon tickets will cost
$7.50 each. So far no plans to sell the
tickets to the general public have been
made he said.
In addition to the inaugural luncheon a
scholars' banquet will be Feb. 19 at 5:30
p.m. in the Main Room of the Campus
Center Duty said. The scholars' banquet
is by invitation only for delegates
representing colleges universities or
learned societies at the inauguration. Also
invited will be ACU faculty members and
individuals who are attending the
MathScience Research Symposium that
day he said.
Dr. Anthony Gotto chief of staff at the
Methodist Hospital in Houston and
chairman of the medical department at
Baylor University in Houston will speak
Duty said.
Profs compose inaugural music
Three new musical pieces have been
composed for the inauguration of ACU
President William J. Teague Feb. 20 said
John Duty director of university events.
The processional "Fanfare and
Celebration" was written by Dr. Sally
Reid chairman of the music department
for the symphonic band directed by John
Whit well assistant professor of music.
The inauguration anthem "The Spirit of
Freedom" was written by Dr. M.L.
Daniels professor of music for the grand
chorus and the brass sextet. The piece will
be played under the direction of Milton
Pullen associate professor of music and
director of choral activities.
The recessional "Procession of the
Celebrants" was written by Dr. Ed
George associate professor of music also
for the symphonic band.

State senator to announce
bid for State Comptroller
State Sen. Mike Richards a 1959 ACU
alumnus from Houston and a member of
the National Development Council will
conduct a press conference Wednesday at
2:30 p.m. at the Abilene Municipal Airport.
Richards who has been a senator for one
term will announce his bid for State
Comptroller. He will be introduced at the
airport by Bob Bailey ACU Board of
Trustees' member.
Richards is the senior partner at
Richards White and Odem Financial
Services Corp. an insurance and estate
planning firm. Before that he was an in-
surance salesman for American Founders.
He is a member of the York Christian
College board of directors the Houston
Association of Life Underwriters board of
directors and the Gulf Optical Co board of
directors Richards also is a life member
of the Million Dollar Round Table and
chairman of the board of the Industrial
State Bank of Houston.
While at ACU Richards was named to
Who's Who in American Colleges and
Universities was a member of Student
Senate and A Club and was president of
Gamma Epsilon.
The senator and his wife former ACU
student Cynthia Reynolds will be in
Abilene visiting their daughter Melone a
junior from Houston.
