Gunter, a fourth grade teacher,
has been with the Aransas Pass
system for 28 years. She has a
total of 38 years in teaching
L R Nedbalek will be retiring
at the end of May as school
district business manager and
lax assessor. Nedbalek re
ceived a 35 year pin and

Nedbalek began his career
with the Aransas Pass school
system as a high school teacher
and coach He coached the first
APHS basketball team to go to
state. His career here was
interrupted during the war but
he returned immediately after
Nedbalek has spent 43 years in
school systems.

Shooting Victim In Critical Condition
Calvin Macks. 32. was in
critical condition yesterday
afternoon after a shooting in an
Aransas Pass lounge Monday-
night
Police officers were called to
the lounge at 10:27 p m Monday
and found Macks shot once in
the stomach and once in the leg
Macks was first taken to
Lyman Roberts Hospital and
then transferred to Memorial
Medical ('enter in Corpus
Christi where he was listed in
crilical condition

ferred to the county jail in
Sinton Tuesday after bond was
set.

Police Monday arrested three
persons and charged them with
possession of marijuana and
narcotics paraphernalia.

Kenneth Wesley Young, 24. and
Judy Stone Young. 20;
Warded Janier, Jr., 27, was
arrested Thursday, April 24, by
Sgt Wallace Maley and
patrolman Loyd Penshorn and
chargccPwith DWI. Sgt Maley
and patrolman Penshorn ar-
rested John T Gleaton. 28,
Monday and charged him with
DWI.
Police report the following
traffic offenses on the docket
this week: illegal parking 1,
speeding 12, no drivers license

red light 1, unsafe lane change
I. ran stop sign 4. and failure to
stop for a pedistrian in
crosswalk 1.
On the criminal docket were
two cases of drunk, three of
disorderly conduct, four of
reckless damage or destruction,
two of criminal trespass, and

Shrimp-Eating Title Competition Increases
The Mean Green Eating
Machine who was seen last
week flexing his muscles and
saying he is getting in condition
is going to find the going tough
The Mean Green Eating
Machine, sometimes known as
Jim Green of Green's Texaco,
last week had two competitors
for the shrimp eating title with
the showdown scheduled May 17
as part of the Shrimporee
celebration On that date the
hopefuls will gather at the city
hall parking lot with all (he
shrimp they can eat in half an
hour

This week the Mean Green
Eating Machine has three new
competitors and all are
rumored to be just as big and
just as efficient at putting away
the food
David Butler will be trying to
uphold the honor of Brown and
Root of Ingleside, his employer.
and Jackson Marine Corpora-
tion of Aransas Pass, his
sponsor But Butler will
likewise find the going lough as
Rockport has entered a man
who promises to take up quite a
bit of the space on the platform
and devour his share of the
shrimp.
Rockport s entry is perhaps
one of that city's biggest men.

Cannon is the sixth man in the
contest. He is better known
though as Richard Soto,

Kicky McNiel, chairman of
the shrimp eating contest
sponsored by the Lions Club,
said that eight more contestants
Police Answer 565 Calls
In First Quarter of 1975
During the first quarter of
1975, Aransas Pass Police
Department answered 565 calls
For the period from January 1
to March 30, the department
investigated and completed the
paper work on 365 criminal
cases. 141 traffic cases and
investigated 59 traffic acci-
dents.
Police Chief Rudy Ramirez
said the investigation of a case
is not complete until the paper
work is filled out and two-thirds
of the cases investigated must
be written and typed up.
■'These reports have to be
typed up and this takes a lot of
time in the office as well as a lot
of lime in the field to gather the
facts of the cases," Ramirez
said
In making his report Ramirez
states that the police depart-
ment is doing everything it can
to cope with the crime situation
and asked the cooperation of the
people of Aransas Pass
He stated, "Anyone who sees
any suspicious people in their
neighborhood or in the business
area should report them at once
to the police department. We
appreciate your cooperation It
takes all of us to cope with the
crime situation today. We thank
you for all your past calls "
In his report Ramirez noted
that a total of 260 cases of
drunkenness, disorderly con-
duct. simple assault, affray,
and criminal trespassing were
investigated during the first
quarter of the year

The breakdown of (he cases

the first quarter includes: 13
possession of marijuana, seven
DWI, three prohibited weapons,
nine thefts not including
juvenile theft, two rapes, four
prohibited weapons on licensed
premises, six criminal mischief
vandalisms, three forgeries,
three aggravated assaults and
three auto thefts.

In order to make the shrimp
eating a bit more appetizing,
this year Blue Sea Inc of
Aransas Pass will be adding a
touch of taste to the shrimp
Instead of boiled shrimp. Blue
Sea will be adding a touch or
two of spice and will steam the
shrimp.
For people not familiar with
the shrimp-eating competition,
the contestants have a half hour
to devour as much shrimp as
they can.
The rules of the contest
stipulate that the contestant
may bring his own drinks but
absolutely no alcoholic beve-
rages will be permitted If at
any time during the compel i
lion, a contestant should
regurgitate he will be dis-
qualified. All the shrimp must
be eaten by mouth and any
dropped will be replaced
Persons who wish to enter the
contest may be of any age and
of either sex
Aransas Pass' city manager
Al Holguin will emcee the
contest and the 1975 King
Shrimporee, who will be
announced the night before, will
be the chief judge
Deadline for entering the
contest is May 14.

Aransas Pass and Ingleside
passed the two constitutional
amendments in Tuesday's elec-
tion, although voter turnout in
both cities was very light.
In Aransas Pass, as else-
where throughout the state,
voters approved amendment
one. The vote was 108 votes for
and 17 against and on
amendment two there were 86
votes for and 38 against
In Ingleside both precincts
voting in one location a total of
98 persons voted. On amend--
men! one 85 people voted for
and 13 against. On amendment
two 59 voted for and 38 against.
Amendment one approved by
voters consolidates several
sections of the state constitution
dealing with retirement and
pension benefits for state and
local employees as well as
teachers.
The amendment means em-
ployee contributions to the
retirement fund will not be less
than six percent and the state
limit will be raised from six to
10 percent.
The second amendment
granted a pay raise to state
senators and representatives
Their annual salary will go
from $4,800 to $7,200 It also
means increases in their per
diem allowances, from $12 to
$30 a day and ups travel pay
from to cents lo 16 cents a mile
