Wedding Held
In Austin
Miss Wanda Lynn Wallace
and James Wayne Gilbert, both
of Austin, were married Sept. 25
in St Luke’s on the Lake in
Austin.
Mr and Mrs. Ralph Houston
Wallace of Aransas Pass are
parents of the bride and the
groom’s parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne E. Gilbert.
Mrs. Lynne Shannon was
matron of honor and best man
was 6year-old Kerry Kristo-
pher Gilbert, son of the groom.
Following the ceremony, a
garden reception was held in
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Les
Ready, 5710 Highland Hills
Circle Floral arrangements
were of shell flowers and sea
lilac.
The bride is a graduate of the
University of Texas with a B.S.
degree in home economics. A
member of Alpha Chi Omega,
she also attended Texas Tech
University and was a freshman
cheerleader She is employed as
a sales coordinator with
Vintage Needleprint Design,
Deux Amis, Inc.
The groom received a B.B.A
degree from the University of
Texas, where he was a member
of Phi Gamma Delta and the
varsity basketball team He is
employed as an insurance agent
with Massachusetts Mutual

HONORED AT SHOWER
Mrs. Roger G. Strackbein was
honored at a Pink and Blue
shower Monday evening in the
home of Mrs. Dewey A. Holden
on Holden Road.
Hostesses were Mrs. Stanley
Upton of Houston and Mrs. C.E.
Taylor.
The cake, which was made in
the shape of an infant's gown,
w as decorated with white icing
with pink rose buds and pink
and blue swirls. It was served
with punch, coffee, mints and
nuts.
The honoree received a nice
assortment of useful and lovely
baby gifts. Twenty-six guests
enjoyed games and refresh-
ments.

Mrs. Johnson
Named Outstanding
Secretary
Elsie F. Johnson, a native of
Aransas Pass, has been named
Outstanding Secretary for Sep-
tember at NASA’s Houston
Space Center. Mrs. Johnson is
secretary to the chief, Mission
Operations Branch, Flight
Control Division.
She was nominated for the
award by John O’Neill, former
acting chief. David Schultz is
now chief of the Mission
Operations Branch.
“Her abilities to produce
accurate and rapid work output
coupled with her exceptional
sense of priority allow her to
assume more responsibility in
assisting the engineers with
flight critical documentation,”
said O’Neill.
Mrs. Johnson “has never
failed to respond to the
challenge of added mission
workload, and during Skylab,
she worked in the mission
control center with terminal
interface to a software system
to retrieve and properly store
critical mission data,” O’Neill
noted.
O’Neill also cited Mrs. John-
son’s exceptional talents and
innovative approach to her job
and added that she “is an
all-around top notch secretary
because she works hard at it. By
enjoying her work she makes it
easy for those around her to
enjoy doing their work.”
Mrs. Johnson, who was born
in Aransas Pass, moved to
Houston at an early age Her
mother, Mrs. Jessie Silva, the
former Jessie Beasley of this
city, now lives in Houston.
Mrs. Johnson is the grand
daughter of the late Mr and
Mrs. Jess Beasley of Aransas
Pass and a niece of Mrs. Ray
Williams "of Aransas Pass and
Mrs. J.D. Hale of Ingleside

At Sam Houston U
Eleven students from Aran-
sas Pass and one from Ingleside
are enrolled as freshmen for the
fall semester at Sam Houston
State University ip Huntsville.
All are 1976 graduates of their

Rev. Glenn R McCollum has
resigned as pastor of the First
Baptist Church, Aransas Pass
to accept the pastorate of the
First Baptist Church, Bishop
His resignation became effec-
tive on September 26, the date of
his fifth anniversary here
A reception for Bro. Mc-
Collum and his wife, Billie, and
family, Michael, Tammie and
Rodney, was held following the
evening service on Sept. 26
They were presented with a
“Money Tree” from the
congregation.
Approximately 150 guest
attended
Bro McCollum will not only
be missed by members of the
church but also by his many
friends in the community. His
unique hobby of carving and
mounting sea birds has made
him many friends over the area
