60 DANIEL BAKER COLLEGE
The Academy
This department has been found necessary because
many who wish to enter the college have no high school
convenient to their homes. Students who expect to enter
the Academy must be at least thirteen years of age; they
should have r good working knowledge of elementary
English grammar, reading and spelling; of arithmetic to
percentage; of geography; United States and Texas historyin
other words, should be able to enter at least the eighth
grade of a standard high school.
There are several advantages to be derived from attendance
in the Academy of the College. The classes are
small; the teachers college-bred men and women of experience
and ability. By daily contact with more advanced
students proper habits of study are formed. Academy
students have the use of the college library and other equipment.
The religious environment and influence of Christian
students can not be overestimated.
Credits in this department are given in units, a unit
being defined as five periods of not less than 40 minutes
each throughout the thirty-six weeks of a school year.
Upon completion of full Freshman entrance requirements,
four units of which have been taken at Daniel Baker College,
a certificate is awarded.
