HISTORY
Course A.-Ancient History
Fall, Winter, Spring. Three Hours a Week.
Credit 1 Unit.
The course begins with a study of primitive man and
the birth of civilization in the East, thus preparing for an
appreciation of the progress made by the Greeks and the
Romans. In the history of Greece the emphasis is placed
on the contributions of this most gifted people to civilization,
in that of Rome the elements of permanent worth in
Roman achievements are emphasized equally with the
striking personalities who led in these achievements.
Texts.-Webster's Ancient History, and the accompanying
volume of Readings.
Course B.-Mediaeval and Modem History
Fall, Winter. Spring. Three Hours a Week.
Credit 1 Unit.
The course will begin with a brief review of the decline
of the Roman Empire and the establishment of the Germanic
kingdoms. After a careful study of the middle ages,
a fuller treatment will be given to the modern period.
Much time will be given to the study of such striking perconalities
as Charlemange, St. Francis, Petrarch, Luther,
Erasmus, Napoleon, and Bismark.
Texts.-Robinson's History of Western Europe, and his
Readings in European History (abridged.)
Course C.-American History
Fall, Winter, Spring. Three Hours a Week.
Credit 1 Unit.
This course traces American History from the period of
