Interview with Ruth Roach Salmon concerning her experiences as a rancher and rodeo performer in Nocona, Texas. She also talks about her marriage to Fred Salmon and her entry into ranching at Nocona in 1938; Fred Salmon's family background; ranching activities and shipping cattle to the Fort Worth and Bowie markets; her experiences raising sheep, chickens, hogs, and horses, and a description of the ranch hands.

Notes

Interview conducted in 1984 for the Business Archives Project, North Texas State University Oral History Collection. Interviewer: Dr. Floyd Jenkins of the College of Business, North Texas State University; assisted by Louise Addington, a librarian in Nocona and a long time acquaintance of Mrs. Salmon and her family.

The Ruth Scantlin Roach Salmon Collection of papers from 1916 to 1981 is processed and available for viewing in the University Archives. Includes: Printed material, literary productions, and photographic material relating to Ruth Scantlin Roach Salmon's career as a rodeo performer (1914-1936) and rancher in Nocona, Texas. Salmon is an inductee in the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
