THE RAYTOWN SUN
Sunday. January 3. 1999
Internet-based registration starts Jan, 4 at Lamar University
The seemingly endless lines
long associated with the task of
registering thousands of students
each semester will soon be but a
memory at Lamar University,
thanks to technology. '
Rather than standing in line,
students will register for classes
on Lamar University’s “Web,for
Students” site, at www.lamar.edu,
beginning Jan. 4.
At the same time, an improved
telephone-based registration sys-
tem, TouchNet Telephone,
replaces the older Voice
Response System for students
without Internet access. Regis-’
tration for the Spring semester
will continue through Jan. 14.
Lamar’s “one-two punch” on
inconvenience led administrators
to cancel arena registration this
year.
The final hurdle "for students
during registration has been the
line for payment, so officials
have set up several new ways for
students to pay, including pay-
ment by mail, charge to a Ameri-
can Express, Discover (Novus),.
Master Card or Visa, numerous
payment drop boxes on campus,
or at. the cashier’s office by cash,
check or credit card. r,.t
Qn Lamar’s “Web for Stu-
dents,” 'students can check
account balances; calculate
tuition for a specific term; check
course availability by subject or
course number and see alterna-
tive classes thahare offered if
their selected class is full; view
an’d.print grade reports for any
term; register on line, and drop
or add "classes; review addresses;
check the offered, accepted and
fjaid amounts of Financial' Aid
awards; arid check the status of
requirements for Financial Aid.
in the new system, students
must have a current personal
identification number (PIN) to
access sfudent information, are|s.
Catalog and class schedule-wilt
be available to the public
The university reset PINs in
November (prior to .spring regis-
‘ tration). Students will need their
November PIN to access fall
grades. Students should contact
the department in which they are
majoring with any questions
about PINs.
' Students wishing to register
must first apply and be accepted
for adpission and may do so by
contacting Lamar’s Admissions
Office at (409) ,880-8888. New
freshmen must submit an appli-
cation for admission, high |chool
transcript, and their SAT or ACT
stores.
Any students needing help or
special assistance may contact
any of the following: Admis-
sions, (409) 880-8888; Registra-
tion, (409) 880-8437; Cashier-
