RUFO SANCHEZ JR.
Rufo Sanchez Jr., 72, of Bay-
town died Thursday, Aug. 31,
1995, in a local hospital.
Sanchez was a graduate of
the New Jersey Institute of
Technology with his
B.S.C.H.E. degree.
He also graduated from
Columbia University in New
York with his M.S.C.H.E.
degree and also Rutgers Uni-
versity in New Jersey with his
M.B.A. degree. He was
employed by Exxon for more
than 37 years working at Exxon
in Baytown between 1972-1986
until his retirement.
He served more than six
years in the U.S. Navy as an
officer during World War II
and the Korean Conflict. His
community services involved
being a member of Kiwanis
and a member of the Lee Col-
lege Hispanic Education
Access community.
He was also a member of the
Germania Corinthian Masonic
Union Lodge 11-F.A.M.
He is survived by his wife of
47 years, Susan Sanchez of
Baytown; daughters Judy
Sanchez and husband Tom
Webber of Rochester, N.Y. and
Beverly Sanchez and husband
Joe Moran of Lake Forest, 111.;
grandchildren, Rufo Sanchez
III, Phobe Webber and Leopold
Sanchez, all of Rochester, N.Y,
and Amy Sanchez-Moran and
Austin Sanchez-Moran of Lake
Forest, 111.
In lieu of usual remem-
brances, for those desiring,

ris County Parkinsons’ Founda-

Sanchez was taken to New
Jersey for other arrangements.
Local arrangements were
under the direction of Earth-
man Funeral Directors.

Funeral services for Margaret
Simien Jones, 50, of Ames will
be held at 10 a.m. Saturday,
Sept. 2, 1995, at Our Mother of
Mercy Catholic Church in Lib-
erty.
Ms. Jones died Monday, Aug.
28, in a Houston hospital after
being ill for many years.
She had been a lifelong resi-
dent of Ames and was of the
Catholic faith.
She was a homemaker,
nurse’s aide, reserve peace
officer and a domestic worker.
She was always very helpful to
others in their time of need.
She is survived by her moth-
er, Hazel Bernard of Ames;
sons, Joseph Simien Jr. of
Ames, William C. Simien of
San Antonio; daughters-in-law,

Mother of Mercy Cemetery
following services.

ALTON J. SLEDGE SR.
Funeral services for Alton J.
Sledge Sr., 56, of Highlands
will be held at 11 a.m. Satur-
day, Sept. 2, 1995, at Sterling-
White Chapel in Highlands.
Sledge died Wednesday, Aug.
30.
He was born in Baytown on
Jan. 9, 1939, to Claude and
Mattie Sledge.
He was a master electrician
in the oil industry and was of
the Methodist faith.
Sledge married Hazel Francis
Dean on Sept. 15, 1961, in
Channvelview. He was also a
veteran of the U.S. Army
National Guard.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Claude and Mattie
Sledge and son, Alton J. Sledge
Jr.
He is survived by his wife,
Hazel Sledge of Highlands;
daughter and son-in-law, Leara
and Steve Padgett of High-
lands; brothers, Sam Sledge of
Highlands, Bobby Sledge of
Houston; grandchildren,
Stephen and Zackery Padgett
of Highlands; and a host of
nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held 1-9
p.m. Friday, Sept, 1, at the
funeral home.
Interment will be held at
White Cemetery in Highlands
following services.
Arrangements are under the
direction of Sterling-White
Chapel in Highlands.
W.N. “JIGGS” LOFTON
Funeral services for W.N.
“Jiggs” Lofton, 61, of Baytown
will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,
Sept. 2, at Navarre Funeral
Home with Masonic rites and
with the Rev. Steve James of
Memorial Baptist Church offi-
ciating.
Lofton died Wednesday, Aug.
30, at his home.
He was born July 23, 1934,
in Robert Lee and had lived
here since 1971.
He was an inspector at Bayer
Chemical and a member of
Memorial Baptist Church. He
was also a member of the
Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge
321 and the Dickinson Mason-
ic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife
Rhonda Lofton of Baytown;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Kirk and Sandra Lofton of
Mont Belvieu and Les and Kim
Lofton of Mont Belvieu;
daughter and son-in-law, Jan
and J.D. Barker of Cleveland;
brothers and sisters-in-law,
Keith and Norma Lofton of
Snyder, Norris and Mary Jo
Lofton of Snyder and Dale and
June Lofton of Edmond, Okla.;
eight grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Mike
Strom, David Strom, K.B.
Rollins, Jack Cockburn, Jimmy
Hamilton, Howard Jarvis, R.D.
Diehl and Ed Moak.
He will lie in state after noon
on Friday, Sept. 1. The family
will receive friends from 6-8
p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at the
