We will collaborate only if we
are furnished just economic com-

Millan Maldonado said he has
asked President Miguel Aleman to
approve a program drawn up by
the confederation seeking to estab-

Adolf Hitler la -rponted to have
shot himself in hia Berlin bunker
when defeat was certain
These three men may have
thought they were “nhoaen by
God.” bi they arrived at their
eminence through their own am-
bitions and selfish planning Haul,
who was chosen of Jehovah to
be king of Israel and the con-
queror of Its enemies, cams to a
tragic end because of his self-
will and disobedience to Jehavah'a
commands.
He was a fine man in many
ways, brave, and of a good mind
but strong-willed and possibly not
too sure of his position, distrust-
ful. unsure of himself.
Ws cannot go Into all the de-
tails of this long lesson, ns apace
will not permit. It is too bed be-
cause it is full of dramatic action.
Saul had been ordered by Sam-
uel to wait for him to corns to
Jehovah aa great delight in burnt-

Behold, to obey la better than aar.

Samusl gr-ved over Haul. an.I

David had alaii. the Phillatlnc
giant, Ooliah. and the people loved
David above all Uie people of the
kingdom.
Saul haJ become Increasingly
jealous sad afraid of him, no
when altar the victory the king
heard the women dancing and
singing. "Saul hath slam hls
thousands, and David his ten* of
thousands,'* he began to hate the
youth.
One day wh< n David was play-
mg hla harp in Saul's presence, *
terrible mood came upon the king,
and he heaved a javelin at David
Fortunately. David escaped.
Saul eve i consulted a witch
the Witch of Rndoy to see what
hia future might be. and Samuel
who had died In the meantime,
waa brought «by Jehovah) to him.
MKMORY VKK8K
“To obey is better than Mmcnficc, and to hearken than thr rat
of rantx "~l Samuel 15 11.
G i I g a I to offer sacrifice to the
Lord before a battle. Saul waited
seven days, then as hls people
were f-ightened and began to de-
sert him, he decided not to wail
for 8«muel. He offered the sacri-
fice. and then Samuel appeared
Samuel was shocked that Soul
had disobeyed the command and
said to Saul. 'Thou hast done
foolishly; thou hast not kept the
commandment of Jehovah thy
God. which Hr commanded thee,
for now would Jehovah have
established thy kingdom upon
Israel for ever.
' But now thy hingdom shall not
continue: the Lord hath sought
Him a man after Hls own heart ‘
The next act of disobedience
was when Saul was commanded
to smite U. • Amalekites and ut-
terly destroy them, and all their
possessions. This nomadic tribe
which bad been of great annoy-
ance to the Israelites, was de-
feated utterly in battle, and tho
people were slaughtered, but
Saul's thrifty followers could not
bear to kill the livestock, so took
them with them.
When Samuel came to see If
Jehovah’S word had been obeyed.
Saul assured him that a 11 had
been done as commanded Samuel,
however, asked what the mean-
ing was of the bleating he heard
Haul answered that he had taken
thr king of the Amalrkitrs cap-
tive. but the people had taken the
sheep and oxen to make sacrifices
to the I-ord.
Samuel's answer was "Math
and the seer uaid to Saul. "Where-
forr then dost thou ask of me,
seeing the Lord Is departed from
thee, and is become thine ene-
my?’* Poor Saul must have been
assured then that hls career,
probably his life, was drawing io
a close
Another great battle with the
Philistines brought about the final
defeat "And thr battle went sore
against Saul, and the archer*
overtook him; and h. was greatly
distressed by reason of the arch-
ers.
‘Then said Saul to his armor-
bearer, Draw thy sword, ami
thrust me therewith; lest the ..
uncircumcised come ami thrust
me through and abuse me But.
hls armorbearer would nut for
he was sore afraid Therefore,
Saul took his sword, and fell upon
It."
Jonathan and Maui's other sons
were also killed in the same tiattlc
The enemy fastened Haul s body
to the wall of Rethshan. but som
of the men over whom MhuI had
ruled must I ive loved him, for
"all the valiant men arose and
went all night, and took the hodv
of Haul and the bodies of hi sons
from thr wail of Hethshan. and
came to Jalwsh, and burnt th< m
there.
"And they took their bones nnd
buried them under a tree at Ja-
besh. and fasted seven days ‘
So in deep tragedy ended the
lift; of Israel's first king, because
he disobeyed Jehovah and thr
Lord desrrtrd him
