•Iva Hooker was honored with a
94th birthday celebration on Thurs-
day, June 14 at Red River Haven
Nbrsing Home. The room was deco-
rated with multi-colored balloons and
ribbons. The cake had pink icing with
thfc inscription "Happy Birthday Iva".
There were 94 candles on the cake.
; A special guest at the celebration
wpsGolodie Deberry. As young girls,
Gpldie and Iva attended Bogata
School in 1906. This school was
wjicre the elementary school build-
ing is now located.
Upon completion of their school
days, Goldie married Paul Deberry, a
cqntractor, in November, 1919.
Iva worked as a clerk in a dry
gc ods store before moving to El Paso,
w icre she worked as a court reporter
for four years. In 1926, Iva returned
to Bogata and married John Hooker,

{Vacation Bible School is off to a
grfcat start at the First Baptist Church
in Bogata with 201 pupils and work-
ed enrolled on Tuesday.
Classes are provided for ages two
through sixth grades. Family night is
Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. A picnic will
be Friday, from 11 to 12.

Kefnan, was honored with a miscel-
laneous shower at the home of Mrs.
Su4 Nolen in Talco on June 15 from

by the hostesses Sue Nolen, Pete
Swarts, Nancy Brown, Kim Brown
and Anit aBaker.
Laura received many beautiful and
useful gifts. Around 30 attended and
many gifts were sent from those who
could not attend.

Kansas City, KS and their daughter,
Mrs. Scott Campbell and children of
Limpton, KS came Thursday to visit
Mr. and Mrs. Travis King and went
home Sunday.

Matlock of Deport Nursing Home
and three daughters of Dallas of Bro.
and Mrs. James Clark were visitors
Sunday at the First Baptist Church.
Visitors of Faye Gandy this week
were Sandy Jarecki and Adam Chase
of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kay Johnston
of Clarksville, James Rodgers, Dar-
rel Allen Mitchell of Deport, Betty,
Melissa and Monte Rodgers, Tony
Fulbright, J.W. Stewart and Linda
Embrey.
Bland Sandlin, brother of Leona
Alley, died in Commerce Thursday.
Services were Sunday in Commerce
with burial in Pecan Gap. All rcla
lives here attended and we extend our
sympathy to them.
Mr. and Mrs. Duane King visited
Mr. and Mrs. Travis King Friday and
Dick King was a visitor Saturday.
Barbara McCune visited in Dallas
Sunday with hcrcousin and aunt. Her

Mr. and Mrs. Red Weaver of
Powdcrly, Mr. and Mrs. Happy Gable
of Mincola were visitors at the Bap-
tist Church and the homecoming. Mr.
and Mrs. Weaver were also supper
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don Wright at
their country home.
Mr. and Mrs. Worth Baker, Faye
Gandy, Sandy and Adam Chase Ja-
recki had lunch in Clarksville Tues-
day.
Faye Gandy had lunch Sunday with
Ruby Chandler. Other visitors were
Larry Parker of Detroit, Ruth Adams,
Alpha Lewis of Detroit and Gerald-
ine Graves of Rowlett.
Nancy Dugger was hostess to a
Father's Day dinner for her husband,
Raymond, Jr., at the Fish Fry in Paris
Sunday with all the family attending.
Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Embrey and
Linda Embrey honored Bob with a
Father's Day supper at their home.
Megan and Tyler Attcrbcrry,
grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Embrey have both been ill but are
better now.
Mrs. Allen Nutt of Paris, twin sis-
ter of Faye Gandy, has been ill with
the flu.
Fulbright friends were sad to hear
of the death of John Ramsey. He was
bom and raised here.
' Wayne Roberts had lunch Sunday
with Betty Rodgers and family.
Monte Rodgers went back to work
S unday after two weeks vacation from
Campbell Soup.
Tommy Mintcr of Paris visited
during the week with Monte Rodg-
ers.
Jimmy and Travis King, Bo and
Judy King, Leslie Campbell and chil-
dren visited Kay Osburhnof Paris and
enjoyed the evening meal. Others
there were Duane and Bobbye King,
Kyle, Kutchey, Nicole, Shelly and
Travis King of Paris, Randy, Janice
and Rebecca Osbum of Midlothian.
The Vacation Bible School at the
First Baptist Church was a big suc-
cess last week with 39 enrolled. It
closed Friday night with a program
and picnic. Thanks to all who took
part in it.
Karen Baker of Dallas visited the
weekend with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Worth Baker.
Our sympathies arc extended to
the families of Edith Arriaga, Tracy
and Crystal Smith of Deport, who
died Saturday as results of a car
wreck.
Melissa Rodgers and Barbara
McCunearegoingto computer school
in Paris on Tuesday and Thursday,
Johntown Locals
who was a dairy farmer.
Mr. and Mrs. Hooker made their
home in Paris. Goldie and Iva kept in
touch until Mr. and Mrs. Deberry
moved toSan Antonio in 1930. While
there, Goldie and Iva only sent Christ-
mas cards.
Goldie now lives in Idabcl, OK
and she and Iva got together every
summer to enjoy each other and to
reminisce about their younger years.
Those attending Iva's birthday
party were the honorce and her daugh-
ter, Nora Duncan of El Paso, Kath-
leen Mendenhall, Gertie Choate,
Frances Griffin, Mary Coleflesh and
three grandchildren, Nicky Jackson,
Jeremy Jackson and Elizabeth Co-
leflcsh, Janie Davis, Frances Rozell,
Alice Ann White, Becky White,
Eleanor McClucr and Goldie De-
berry.
Jamin and Jcrah Graham spent the
week with their grandparents, G lenn
and Oma Graham of Tyler. Ron and
Penny Graham traveled to Kansas
City, KS over the weekend returning
home Tuesday.

Friday, July 27 from 9 a.m. until 4
p.m. at the Region VIII Education
Service Center in Mt.Plcasant. Ms.
Rhoda Sherrill will be the presenter.
She has been trained for thi work-
shop through the Texas Art Leader-
ship Institute, a statewide inscrvicc
project in art education. The work-
shop training was sponsored by the
Texas Education Agency.
Critical and creative thinking arc

essential elements of art will find this
workshop valuable in the following
areas: aesthetic scanning, environ-
