Sighs are multiplying iliat art' negotiators art* prepared
to accept a cease-tire on the basis of the present battle lines.
Critics who have called this appeasement in advance, have
been let in on a secret. This is that the administration is
playing for larger stakes than Korea.
Aware that India, Indonesia and all of Southwest Asia
are suspicious of our motives in going to the aid of Korea,
the terms offered for a cease-fire are designed once and for
all to still the fears of these Asiatics and consolidate their
friendship. Generous cease-fire terms that may disipate Com-
munist-inspired visions of a new and dangerous American
imperialism can save the rest of Asia for the free world.
Whether or not the Chinese are impressed, their neighbors
will see again the same open handed treatment we showed
in giving the Philippines their independence, and will know
which is the imperialist power and which the truly demo
cratic one. We can only hope it works that way.
Coal Tar Secrets
Little Switzerland, which employs its highly skilled la-
bor to turn out finished products for which her neighbors
produce the steel and other metals, has unlocked another I
secret of coal To the dies and numerous other coal tar de-
rivatives tn use the world over as a result of research into
the elements in coal, the Swiss have added a new synthetic!
pain killing drug, giving more effective and more lasting!
relief from pain than morphine, with a lower incidence of I
nausea. The drug is called dromoran
Once again, a natural resource under research and de-
velopment yields another helper to mankind in his quest
for a less arduous existence in this vale of tears. In a piece
of rock or a bit n| soil we may hold in our hand, or a mere
bit of vegetable from our garden, may be a secret of untold
.••.ve-inspiring thought This community mav
