Madonna pulls footage
of baby on special
NEW YORK (AP) — Madon-
na had a change of heart about
putting , her baby daughter on tele-
vision. At her request, MTV has
snipped 53 seconds of footage
from a program that airs this week-
end.
Madonna, who also posed with
baby Lourdes for a photo spread
in Vanity Fair magazine, asked the
network to cut footage showing
her daughter bouncing happily to
the “Macarena” from a show pro-
moting the singer’s new album.
She made a “spur of the
moment” decision allowing the
photos to be made but now consid-
ers it a mistake to make pictures of
her daughter public, MTV news-
man Kurt Loder said Wednesday.
Madonna had second thoughts
when she was in Paris this week
and was confronted by thousands
of fans shouting for her and her .
16-month-old daughter, Loder
said. '
“I think she was really, really
shaken,” he said.
Madonna and her spokeswoman,
Liz Rosenberg, are in Europe this
week and did not return a call.

Steven Spielberg faced the man i

will try to harm him and his fami-

“I think he’s on a mission and he
won’t be satisfied until he accom-
plishes the mission, and I think
I’m the subject of the mission,”
Spielberg testified Wednesday.
Defendant Jonathan Norman
never made eye contact with Spiel-
berg. At first Norman, 31, sat with
a slight smile on his face, scrib-
bling notes. Then he sat back and
yawned as his lawyer cross-exam-
ined Spielberg.
Asked if he still fears Norman,
the director nodded.
“I really feel to this day I am
prey to this individual,” he said.
Prosecutors said Norman was
fixated on Spielberg and hoped to
kidnap and rape him—and that
Norman was armed with a “rape
kit” including duct tape, razor
blades and handcuffs when he
twice tried to enter Spielberg’s *

Oasis blames ‘rude'

PERTH, Australia (AP) —
Liam Gallagher denied that he
and other members of Oasis yelled
obscenities and disturbed passer?
gers on a flight from Hong Kong
to Australia.
The rocker blamed “rude” pas-
sengers and an uptight crew for the
problems Tuesday on the Cathay
Pacific flight to Perth. The pilot

entourage removed, an airline

LONDON (AP) — Politicians
and pundits arguing over the rights
and wrongs of a knighthood for
Sean Connery have left him
annoyed.
The actor objected to specula-
tion that his knighthood was being
held up because he once said he
believes in hitting women and
because he’s a tax exile living in
the Bahamas.
In an interview Tuesday on BBC
radio from his home, Connery
denies condoning violence against
women and called the accusations
against him “character assassina-
tion.”
Alex Salmond, leader of the
Scottish Nationalist Party, accused
the Labor Party government of
rejecting a Connery knighthood
proposal because die Scots-bom
