FRANK EMIL STAUDT
With the demise of Frank
Emil Staudt, former long-
time Postmaster for Harper
(1942 to June 30, 1975) this
community and surrounding
areas will henceforth miss
one of its most dedicated,
outstanding leaders. Very
few persons, whether male
or female, have, or had,
established such a remark-
able list of achievements, ac-
complishments, in the mem-
ory of our current generation
as did Frank E. Staudt.
Frank became Postmaster
in 1942, succeeding Mrs.
Annie E. Sageser who had
served as Harper’s Postmis-
tress for 23 years (1919-
1942). In 1961-62 Frank con-
tracted for a modem new
structure, brick and concrete
with all facilities, on' the
south side of Harper’s Main
Street, about a block or so
west of the former pioneer
frame structure which had
been the site of the previous
post office. This well-built
new postoffice continues to
stand today as a reminder of
one of the numerous , many
thoughtful projects which
Frank undertook to better
life, to better economic
growth, improve civic, busi-
ness and religious resolu-
tions, for Harper and the
wonderful citizens who com-
prise the community.
Father A. A. Gitter, pastor
of St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church in Harper, a life-long
close friend of Frank Emil
Staudt, was visibly touched
in his service and eulogy in
St. Anthony’s Church, Mon-
day afternoon, Sept. 24,
1984. Rev. Gitter looked at a
place, to his left, at the end
of the second pew where
Frank had occupied a seat
every Sunday. That seat,
said Father Gitter, is now
vacant and a void has been
created in the passing of one
of St. Anthony’s most out-
standing parishoners.
Perhaps Rev. Gitter
summed it up when he
referred to the principal ad-
dress he delivered in June
1975 at the time the Harper
Lions Club honored Frank
Staudt with a testimonial
dinner at the Longhorn Inn
where Frank was honored
upon his retirement from
