EVER SINCE her early days
in West Columbia, Trx„ Katby
has been knocking off beauty

times, "Miss Buccaneer Navy "

strings of titles either are dop-
ey, in the patois, or hopelessly
vain. Miss Grant is neither.

there a beautiful woman yet

Hedy Lamarr looked a fright
at 10 or II.
Apparently older people (ah
there, Bingo) always have been
fascinated by Kathy's looks,
which are on the order of Gloria
Vanderbilt’s—but kids her own
age haven’t been so stunned.
Her first year at the University
of Texas, Kathy was working
hard as a drama major and
other girls gave her that
humph - who * does - she
think - she - is - she's - not
so - much routine.
That eased up, but it wasn’t
really until she hit Hollywood
that she stopped feeling a little
uneasy. In Hollywood-and you
can put the rap on it for any-
thing else — beautiful women
sprout up between sidewalk
cracks like weeds.
WELL - CROSBY'S Folly is
evidently, Cinemascope's gain
Miss Grant has been belting
out movies left and right late-
ly, the latest being The Guns
of Fort Petticoat (honest, I
didn’t make that up) and seems
to be reasonably dedicated to
her career.
Kathy flew Into Manhattan
with the members of a maga-
zine's All-American football
team and the company of 22
such beardless youths must
have seemed odd to her at this
point in her life. It's been many
a year since the old groaner
threw passes at Gonzaga.
I suspect that Kathy is not
nearly so photogenic as she
might be; I’ve seen some pho-
tos of her in which she looks
just like any other old, exqui-
sitely beautiful creature. Re-
member how Elizabeth Taylor
looked at 15? Remember the
young Kathryn Grayson? How
about Alice Joyce, you old-tim-
ers? Scratch your head and re-
call Miss Joan Bennett before
she turned brunet
Anemic — all of them. Miss
Grant Is the real thing. What’s
the matter With that Crosby,
anyway?
