On May 28, 1997 at 7:00 pm in the meeting room of the
Butt-Holdsworth Library in Kerrville, Texas Dan Potter, an
archeologist with the Office of the State Archeologist will speak
on "Rights of Private Property Owners Who Have Archeological
Site on Their Land". Archeological sites on public property,
conservation and preservation will also be discussed. This
presentation is being given to provide a better understanding of
archeological site on privately owned land. There is no charge
and it is open to the public.
Bike Touring The IBJ Ranch
Come cycle through the beautiful LBJ Ranch in the heart of the
Texas Hill Country. The Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical
Park will be conducting an 11-mile bicycle tour on the paved
roads of the LBJ Ranch. A tour will be held on Saturday, June
7th. The tour will begin at the LBJ State Park parking lot near
Stonewall at 9:30 a.m. and will last approximately 2 1/2 hours.
The tours will be led by a National Park Service Ranger, but you
must provice your own bicycle and a helmet is mandatory. The
bicycle tours will be free of charge, but space is limited. To
make reservations please call the LBJ National Historical Park at
(210) 644-2420.

Navy Lt. j.g. Karl Knox, a 1989
graduate of Kerrville Tivy High
School of Kerrville, Texas, has
departed on a six-month
deployment to the Mediterranean
Sea with the 22nd Marine
Expeditionary Unit (MEU),
embarked aboard the ships of the
USS Kearsarge Amphibious
Ready Group (ARG).
Knox is one of more than
2,000Marines and Sailors, who
departed Norfolk, Va., and Cam
Lejeune, N.C., aboard the
amphibious assault ship USS
Kearsarge, the amphibious
transport dock USS Ponce and
the dock landing ship USS Carter
Hall.
Equipped with the 22nd MEY
landing force, helicopters, Harrier
attack jets, high-speed assault
hovercraft, landing craft, tanks,
and armored and amphibious
assault vehicles, the USS
Kearsarge ARG provides theater
commanders in the
Meditteranean Sea with a wide
range of capabilities.
The 22nd MEU can evacuate
civilians, rescue downed pilots,
| conduct reconnaissance and
serve as an initial landing force
ashore.
Knox and his fellow Marines and
Sailors spent the past year
training for the wide range of
conventional and special
operations they might be tasked
with during the deployment. As
part of the preparations, USS
KEarsarge ARG participated in
exercises involving air, naval and
ground operations. The exercise
also indluded surveillance,
rescue, humanitarian assistance,
maritime interdiction, embassy
support and non-combat
evacuations.
He joined the Navy in May
1993. Knox is a 1003 graduate of
U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis,
Md.t with a BS degree.
