Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Tullis
were honored Sunday afternoon on
their Golden Wedding anniversary
with open house at the home of
their son and his wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Woody Tullis, 1418 Texas
Avenue. Guests called between the
hours of 4 and 7 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Tullis have a
daughter, Mrs. Judson Trolinger,
who lives in Chulavista, Calif., and
who was unable to be present Sun-
day. They have three granddaugh-
ters, one of whom is Mrs. Oscar
Patterson of Mercedes, and four
great granddaughters. Mr. and
Mrs. Tullis have been residents
of Mercedes for 32 years.
Honor guests Sunday, along with
the couple, were Mr. and Mrs. J.
Leonard Long from Cristobal,
Panama Canal Zone. Mr. Long is
a nephew of Mrs. Andrew Tullis.
Guests were greeted by Mr. and
Mrs. Tullis, the hosts and the
Longs. The receiving rooms were
decorated with mixed arrange-
ments of yellow mums, gladioli
and daffodills, with the exception
of the porch where white poin-
settas and yellow berries were
used. The serving table was laid
with a cream cutwork cloth, an
anniversary gift to the honored
couple, and centered with a floral
arrangement similar to the mantal
arrangement with brass candala-
hra and tall yellow tapers. Guests
weer served cake and coffee.
Mrs. Otto Kusel of Edinburg and
Mr. Long were guests at the Tullis’
wedding. Mrs. Patterson, their
granddaughter, presided at the
guest book. Mrs. Ronnie Acker
accompanied Mrs. Patterson, when
she sang “The Anniversary Waltz,”
“The Girl That I Marry,” and
"‘The Old Time Waltz.” Other
members of the house party in-
cluded Mrs. E. G. Smith, Mrs. W.
W. Holmes, Mrs. Joe Council, Mrs.
L. A. Clarke, Mrs. Dewey Acker,
Mrs. T. J. Ripert, Mrs. Floyd
Langford and Mrs. Tommye Acker.
Out-of-town guests included Mr.
and Mrs. Kenneth Clarke, Austin;
Mr. and Mrs. Stockton Fountain
and Mrs. O. J. Gunn, McAllen;
Mrs. Erin McKaskill, Mrs. Otto
Kusel, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lyons,

Mrs. Fred Gibson was hostess
to the social meeting of Epsilon
Psi Chapter, Epilon Sigma Alpha
sorority, Monday evening at her
home.
Canasta was played with Mrs.
Helen Ferguson winning high, Mrs.
Merle Hildreth, second high and
Miss Mary Frances Dean, low.
Present were Mrs. L. M. Mc-
Donald, Mrs. Bill Drawe, Mrs. J.
T. Archer, Mrs. Nathan Berry, Mrs.
Hildreth, Miss Dean, Mrs. Ed San-
ders, Mrs. E. C. Bazar, Mrs. Glen

Judge W. R .Blalock was guest
speaker at the Jan. 6 meeting of
the South Grammer P-TA.
The subject was “We, the People,
Establish Justice,” and the speak-
er told of the privilege of serving
on the jury and expressed person-
al pleasure in looking forward to
women jurors as this “would be
one time I would talk and women
will have to listen.” In a more
serious vein, he stressed that
everyone had to have a first time
to serve. He told how England
sent their juries over to America
during Colonial times, even though
the men did not know this coun-
try and could not, therefore, be
fair jurors.
Mrs. Ray Trousdale’s second
grade won the dollar for having
the most parents present at the
meeting.
Arnold Holmes and Donald John-
son played three piano numbers.
Refreshments of cookies and cof-
fee were served.

At Reagan Home
Gamma Omega Chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi met Thursday night,
Jan. 13, at the home of Mrs. Cur-
tis Reagan.
Mrs. A. H. Downing, Jr., pro-
gram chairman for the evening,
introduced Bill Kennedy who
showed the film “Man Alive,” a
film of the American Cancer So-
ciety.
Mrs. Vic Morava and Mrs. Floyd
Jenks were granted leaves of ab-
sence. Mrs. Chas Greenwood was
elected chapter Sweetheart to rep-
resent Mercedes at the annual
Valentine dance which will be held
in Weslaco Feb. 12.
A baby cup was presented to
Mrs. Oscar Patterson.
Cake and coffee were served
from a table laid with a lace cloth
that held a centerpiece of Elsie
Polsen roses.

Order of Rainbow Installs
New Officers Wednesday Night
Formal installation for the new
officers for the Mercedes Order
of the Rainbow were held Wed-
nesday evening, Jan. 12, in the
local Masonic Hall with Miss Jean
Knapp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Gilson Knapp, installed as Worthy
Advisor.
Other officers installed included
Mary Ann Rushton, associate
worthy advisor; Janet Morgan,
hharity; Ashbel Saladino, hope;
Linda Atteberry, faith; Patti Clif-
_ford, recorder; Eloise 'Johnston,
treasurer; Susan McArthur, chap-
lain; Peggy Bravenec, drill leader;
Lou Anne Langford, organist;
Clydell Hollon, choir director;
.Thelma Lucas, confidential observ-
er; Joan Knapp, outer observer,
and Mrs. H. M. Hensley, mother
-advisor. The color stations are
Patsy Ray, red; Gladys Traylor,
orange; Joanna Frix, yellow; Lin-
da Leonard, blue; Diana Hall, in-
’igo; Valisu Barnes, violet; and.
- largie Collier, green.
The installing officer was Audra
Ann George; installing marshall,
Eloise Johnston; chaplain, Char-
lene Traylor; recorder, Palti Clif-
ford; organist, Lou Anne Lang-
ford.
Miss Langford was presented
with a Rainbow pin given to the
past worthy advisor. Mr. and Mrs.
Knapp, Martin Waldron and Mrs.
Paul Schrank received a welcome
and other guests were introduced.
The hall was decorated for the
occasion in rainbow colors and the
rainbow theme was carried out in
the refreshments of colored punch
and cookies. Working on the re-
freshments were Charlene and
Gladys Rhae Traylor, Patsy Ray,
Susan McArthur and Donnie Voll-
mer.

Wedding Vows
Read in Progreso
Miss Joy Black-of Progreso .be-
came the bride of Harold - Dalton
of Mercedes in a double-ring cere-
mony Sunday, Jan. 9. The vows
were repeated at the home of the
bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.
A. Black in Progeso with Rev.
Meeler Markham, pastor of the
First Baptist Church, Mercedes,
officiating. Mr. and Mrs. R. A.
Porter, Mercedes, are the groom’s
parents.
The vows were repeated before
the fireplace in the living room
where the mantel was decorated
With a long arrangement of small
mums and pink rose buds; pink
net was tucked in the arrange-
ment and white wedding bells
hung_from it. At each end of the
fireplace were placed two cande-
labra which were decorated with
white mums and greenery.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father and wore a street
dress of pink taffeta faille with
--a pleated skirt, tucked bodice ana-
square yoke with turtle neck col-
car. She wore gray accessories
and a white orchid shoulder cor-
sage. Mrs. Dennis Clifford, sister
of the bride, was matron of honor
and wore a beige faille street dress
with black accessories. Wayburn
Dalton, Mercedes, brother of the
groom, was best man. Edwin Hef-
ley, Weslaco, ushered.
Miss Allie Aldridge of Weslaco
played “I Love You Truly,” “Be-
cause,” and the traditional wed-
ding marches on the piano.
Mrs. Dalton attended school in
Weslaco and the grtyofn in. Mer-
cedes.
Following the wedding, a recep-
tion was held on the porch. The
serving table was laid with a
cream colored lace cloth and held
an arrangement of pink candles
around which was placed pink net,
white mums and greenery. The
three-tiered wedding cake was
decorated1 with spun sugar hearts
and pink roses ancT was topped
with a miniature* bride and groom!
The cake was served by Mrs. Hbf-
ley, Weslaco, and Miss Diana Gil-
more, Weslaco, served punch. A
second table held the silver serv-
ice where coffee was served -by
Miss Yvonne - Neubauer of Alamo.
Miss Nancy.’ Gillian of Progreso
was at the bride’s book.
Others in the houseparty includ-

Mrs. H. G. George was hostess
to the Monday afternoon meeting
of the Womans’ Study Club when
the program w a s presented by
Mrs. Bob Crooks, a guest.
Mrs. Crooks presented a short
story by the late Marjorie Kinnan
Rawlins, “Cocks Will Crow.”
Mrs. Hoyt Hager, a new mem-
ber of the club, attended for the
first time and guests included
Mrs. Perry Perkins, Mrs. Ray
Coleman of Nebraska, Mrs. W. J.
Boydston of Oklahoma and Mrs.
C. E. Bfyan, Sr., mother of the
hostess, who also assisted in serv-
ing.
Mrs. C. P. Ray, president, pre-
sided at the business meeting.
Dr. Ruth B.^McCharen is mov-
ing from 320 South Georgia in
Mercedes to 719 South Missouri in
Weslaco. Dr. McCharen is just re-
covering from a severe illness and
will, not have her office open at
present but will announce an open-
ing date later.
