Mrs. W. B. Clore, Jr. was hos-
tess to the Monday afternon
meeting of the Womans Study
Club when Mrs. J. P. Gough
presented the program on “Tex-
as.”
The speaker, the only native
Texan at the meeting, gave a
humourous and informative talk
on interesting Texas history and
cities stressing the early days in
the state and pointing out the
changes which would meet the
eyes of a pioneer who might
make a return visit to the state
today.
Strawberry meringues and cof-
fee were served by the hostess.

The Needlecraft Club met
March 2 in the home of Mrs. Ed-
gar Yates.
New officers were elected as
follows: Mrs. Edgar Yates, pres-
ident; Mrs. J. R. Barry, vice-
president; and Mrs. Martin
Waldron, secretary-treasurer.
Others attending were Mes-
dames J. W. Rouse, W. W. Lee,
H. T. Stotler, Lee Kidder, Max
Conrad, Forrest Jones, Sr, W. M.
Ellison, Rosina Stender, Fred
Griffith, and E. V. Witmer, Mrs.
Hanson of San Francisco, Calif.,
was a guest. A $5 donation was
given to the Red Cross.

home of a former member, Mrs.
J. Russell Smith, Harlingen.
Mrs. Smith, a history teacher
in the Harlingen schools, pre-
sented the program, “The History
of Texas—Inaugurations of Gov-
ernors.”

At Recent Program
Mercedes Chapter No. 629
Order Eastern Star honored
four of it’s officers at their re-
cent meeting. Mrs. Randall At-
teberry, Worthy Matron, presid-
ed in the East, assisted ]by Ran-
dall Atteberry, Worthy Patron.
The program, under the direc-
tion of Mrs. Forrest Jones Sr.,
Associate Matron, honored the
Secretary; Mrs. Lee Kidder; Mrs.
Milton McDonald, Marshall;
Mrs. Martin Waldron, Chaplain;
and Miss Alma Whatley, trea-
surer. The Star Points partici-
pated in the program and each
honoree was presented with a
gift and a corsage.
Floral arrangements in the
hall and on the serving table
were by Mrs. Chas. Saladino
and Mrs. J. F. Wilson.
Guests were present from
Raymondville, Mission, and
Edinburg, and La Feria. Mrs.
Lucius Smith of Marshalltown,
Iowa, was also a guest.
Refreshments were served by
the hostesses.

Miss Hollon Elected
Jane Hollon, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Clyde Hollon, 1450 S.
Ohio, Mercedes, has served this
past semester as treasurer of
Associated Women Students, a
student governing organization
at Southern Methodist Univer-
sity. Miss Hollon, a graduate of
Mercedes High School, is a
freshman at SMU and is a his-
tory major.
