Wednesday, Aug. 21
Exxon Annuitants—The Exxon
Annuitants will hold their monthly
meeting at 10 a.m. in the Baytown
Community Center. Martha Mayo of
the Sterling Municipal Library will pre-
sent the program.
A&M Club—The Baytown A&M
Club will begin meeting at 7 p.m. at
Luby’s Cafeteria the Tuesday following
an Aggie football game. The 12th Man
Video will begin at 7 p.m. Members
are encouraged to come and watch
the game with the Brigham Young
Cougars. For more information, call

Fall baseball —Little League fall
baseball for ages 5-12 registration is
Wednesday at the Baytown East Little
League Park on 10th Street, near
Kroger’s. It will ren from 6 to 8 p.m.
Opening day is scheduled for Sept. 2
and the season will end Oct. 25. All
leagues are invited to play and entire
teams or individuals can enroll. Age is
determined by the player’s league
age” for next year. Registration is $20
per player. Volunteers are needed for
the program and are asked to indicate
their desire during registration. For

Line Dancing—Line dancing for
seniors ages 55 and older will be held
from 10 to 11 a.m. every Thursday at
the Baytown Senior Citizen Recreation

Fish Fry—The Old River Masonic
Lodge 1442 will hold a fish fry from 11
a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at
the lodge in Mont Belvieu. Donations
are $6 and will benefit the building and
scholarship fund.

Ronald McDonald House will speak at
the noon meeting of the Baytown
Kiwanis Club at the Goose Creek
Country Club.

John T. Hare, 82, of Crosby dies at Ilda’s Memorial Hospital in
Highlands two hours after he was injured in a car wreck near the
Crosby Lumber Co. Hare, president of the Crosby State Bank,
was a former county commissioner. He founded the Crosby State
Bank in 1915.
Women suspected in mail thefts
Baytown Chess Club—The organi-
zation will meet from 6 to 10 p.m. at
the Baytown Community Center.
Fine Rides—Bayshore Rne Rides
will meet at 7 p.m. in the Mall Walkers
room at San Jacinto Mall. For more

Police received several reports
of mail being stolen from hous-
es in the Lakewood subdivision.
Mail was taken from mailboxes
on Wildwood, Glen Haven,
Goose Creek and Arrowhead
drives, as well as on Thunder-
bird Circle, according to police
reports.
Three women are suspected in
the thefts, which are federal
offenses. The women were seen
rummaging through mailboxes
in the neighborhood but drove
off in a late model silver Mer-
cury after being spotted.
FORGERY
After discovering that her
bank account was charged for
the amount of a check she did
not write, a Baytown woman
told police someone stole sever-
al of her checks and has been
forging her signature. The
check at the hardware store was
for $84, but there may be more
in the process of clearing.
Police are investigating the mat-
Channelview woman for
shoplifting at a housewares
store in the 4500 block of Garth
Road.
According to the police
report, the woman was taken
into custody after she was seen
concealing several items while
her children watched out for
store personnel. The children
also helped conceal items,
police said.
The woman was arrested and
charged with class B theft, and
her children were released to a
relative.
CRIME SCENE
The Baytown Police Depart-
ment received 201 complaints
between Monday and Tuesday
mornings, including three
reports of burglaries, 11 of
thefts, one report of a car theft,
four reported assaults, 26 dis-
turbance calls, one account of
shots fired and three complaints
of criminal mischief.

THEFT
• Someone stole the front and
rear license plates off a Bay-
town Police Department patrol
car Sunday night while the car
was parked at the department’s
main office on North Main
Street.
• The grandmother of a 16-
year-old Baytown boy filed
theft charges against her grand-
son after he allegedly took a
rifle that belonged to her and
gave it away. The woman, how-
ever, latw located the gun,
which was valued at $600, and
wanted the charges dropped, but
the Harris County District
Attorney’s office refused to
drop the case, according to a
police report.
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF
For the second time in three
weeks, a Baytown woman told
police Monday, someone had
kicked in the right side of her
car while it was parked
overnight on James Bowie
Drive. Damage to the car was
estimated at $600.
BURGLARY
A woman who owns a rent
house on East Fayle Avenue told
police someone stole a window
air conditioning unit from the
house. The woman said she sus-
pects the person who formerly
rented the house because of a
previous confrontation the two
had. The unit was valued at
$300.
TRAFFIC OFFENSES
Police arrested a 24-year-old
Baytown man after he was
stopped on Massey Tompkins
Road for an expired vehicle reg-
istration sticker. He was arrest-
ed when the patrol officer dis-
covered that the man was dri-
ving with a suspended driver’s
license.
SHOPLIFTING
Around 5:30 p.m. Monday,
police arrested a 27-year-old
