The above headline does not
even suggest a fraction of the fun
that was afforded all those pres-
ent last Saturday at the USO
dance at the Jewish Community
Center. These dances are held
under the auspices of the Hous-
ton Army and Navy Committee of
the Jewish Welfare Board, of
which Robert Kaplan is chair-
man. Last Saturday night the
sponsors were the Business and
Professional Group of Hadassah,
the chairman of which is Miss
Jeanette Mandel. She was as-
sisted by a very gracious and ef-
ficient committee consisting of
Joyce Burg Harris, Betty Stahl,
Lillian Kupferberg, Bessie Wein-
berg, Hennie Harris. Elsye Fisher,
Hilda Schwarz, Frieda Etkin, Til-
lie McCullough, Freda Sampson,
Lena Zuber and Elsie Greenbaum.
One of the new and delightful
features of the evening was the
truthful fortune telling of the
seresaes May belle Henkins, Elsye
Fisher, and Betty Stahl.
As part of the program of the
evening. Bob Cahlman conducted
a Truth and Consequence session.
The se&ion proved to be “a source
of amusement and merriment” to
all the soldiers and hostesses who
participated, as well as to those
in the audience.
Much credit is really due the
Business and Professional Group
for the fine all-out effort they
made to insure the success of the
party, and a grand success it was.
On With the Dance
We are happy indeed to. an-
nounce that Mrs. Natalya Kras-
noff has graciously consented to
a return engagement of her tal-
ented pupils in a dance recital
and entertainment Mrs. Krasnoff
has been busy for many weeks in
the rehearsal of her program,
which will be given this Saturday
evening at the U.S.O.-Houston
Army and Navy Committee fit
the J.W.B. at the Jewish Com-
munity Center. All those who
were privileged to be present at
her previous recital at the Center
a few months ago know what a
treat is in store. The hosts for
the evening will - be the B’nai
B’rith Herzl Lodge, of which J.
L. Farb is chairman. Earlier in
the season the Herzl Lodge gave
a smoker for the men in uniform
at the Jewish Community Center.
Camp Halen or Bast

Soldiers Service Bureau of Hous-
ton, the USO Victory Club of

The Men’s Club of Adath Err.e-
th Congregation, which is spon-
sored by Rabbi Josef L. Herbst,
celebrated the first anniversary
of its activities with a very suc-
cessful Fellowship Dinner last
Monday evening. The outstanding
event of the prqgram was the ad-
dress of Rev. Raymond A. Dyson,
of the Third Presbyterian Church,
who electrified the assemblage
with his stirring message on “We
Must Have a Jewish Army in
Palestine.” The address evoked
enthusiastic discussion in which
Dr. Marcus Levinson,' Rabbi A.
H. Blumenthal, Rabbi Sanders
A. Tofield, Abe Meinstein, and
Nathan H. Colish took part. A. L.
Weinberger, long standing friend
of Rev. Dyson, introduced the
guest speaker.
Installation of officers of the
Adath Emeth Men’s Club for the’
ensuing year was also held. The
following were honored: Abe
Meinstein, president; A. L. Wein-
berger, vice president; Sol Kling-
er, secretary; M. M. Cohn, treas-
urer; Pincus Juran, parliamen-
tarian. Nathan Colish, installing
the officers, praised the fine work
the club had been doing in U.S.O.
and other civic activities.
Among the greetings from rep-
resentatives of various organiza-
tions which were delivered in the
course of the banquet was an in-
teresting plea by Mr. Jacob Wer-
lin for a revival of a knowledge
of the Hebrew language and lit-
erary treasures among the young-
er Jewish organizations. Dr. L D.
Peters was chairman of arrange-
ments, and Cantor Max Landman
acted as toastmaster. A. Silberman
and Cantor Landman regaled the
occasion with delightful vocal
music, accompanied on the piano
by Miss Sophie Feder. ,
The banquet was prepared and
served by the Sisterhood, under
the co-chairmanship of Mesdames
A. L Palla and A. Meinstein.
