Beer Lounge
DALLAS ( AP)-The Golden
Chain Baptist Church was once
the Spotlight Lounge. The
transformation was made by
the pastor, Rev. B. L. Horn.
Before organizing his church
for services; Horn took down
the neon sign that decorated
the roof of the single-story
wood building and in its place
nailed two wooden crosses.
He replaced the blinking
electric beer advertising signs
which had adorned the walls
i religious picture.
A plain wooden pulpit now
. stands where once men leahed
against a bar. •
Horn's familiarity with the
building goes beyond the resto-
ration.
"Yes. ft sort of ironic. I’ve
drunk a'few beers in here my-
self. This is something a lot of
.ministers try to hide but ac-
cording to my Bible, we never
each pe'rfeetion." he said.
"1 don't believe in-preaching
against it. Isn't that strange11
teach the Bible and preach the
gospel. That's all I'm supposed
to do." he said.
The two wooden crosses out-
side the building remain un-
painted. „

difi^r'ffke this. As the church is

neighborhood I believe black
would be the appropriate
color," Horn said.
T would Tike to see the black

not any other color. Wasn't Si-
ry the cross,, a' black man1"
Horn now fears that the City
of Dallas may take away his
church. "Someone told me that
in five years or sd the city will
want the land this church is on
for a highway. I would like to
keep the church here. After all,
it's an excellent location," he
said.
