HARLINGEN — The home of
Mrs. L. H. Winnell was the scene
Monday of the final meeting for
the year of the Rio Grande Val-
ley Art League.
Mrs. E. E. Alcott, Jr., was
installed as president; Mrs. Men-
ton Murray, first vice president;
Mrs. R. B. Peebles, second vice
president; Mrs. W. M. Hundley,
recording secretary; Mrs. Charles
Polhemus, corresponding secre-
tary; Mrs. Hugh Ramsey, treasur-
er; Mrs. Frank Grimsel’l, parlia-
mentarian; and Mrs. J. L. Cady,
histoian.
Mrs. E. C. Deering, out-going
president, was presented a gift of
a pottery vase from the club and
Mrs. Alcott was given a bouquet
of roses.
Mrs. 0. P. Martin gave the re-
port of the Valley Federation

tion Finance Corporation, who has
been stationed in other areas for
the past few weeks, has returned
to Harlingen.
Jim Brittain, inspector of elec-
tric installations for government
projects, has returned to his
home in Rio Hondo after a trip
to San Antonio and El Paso.
Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Norton of
Brownsville were guests in the
city Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Polk
Hornaday and daughter, Almeda
returned Monday night from Paris
where they attended the funeral
of a relative.
Mrs. A. E. Klein, who recently
returned to Texas from a month’s
stay in Washington, D. C. arriv-
ed Sunday night for a two weeks’
visit in the homes of Mr. and Mrs.
A. A. Klein and Mr. and Mrs.
Win. Penry.
Mrs. J. W. Fonville spent the
weekend with her mother, Mrs. T.
F. Tom in San Antonio.
Mrs. W. M. Driskell and son
Wallace were visitors in Kerrville
and San Antonio on the weekend.

ANNUAL GUEST DAY
HARLINGEN — Annual guest
day of the Harlingen Garden
Club, held Thursday afternoon at
the Woman’s Building, afforded a
large group of friends and club
guests an afternoon of special en-
joyment.
A pleasing environment of spring
blossoms and a beautifully dec-
orated tea table ararnged in the
patio were distinctive features.
Mrs. L. R. DuBois, president,
was assisted by Mrs. Henry Car-
lisle, secretary as program chair-
man.
Mrs. Paul E. Phipps guest
speaker, illustrated her talk on
China by exhibiting many of the
works of art, antiques, clothing
and souveniers she acquired dur-
ing her stay of 18 months in
Shanghai as a teacher in the
American school there.
Mrs. G. Garabedian, popular
violinist of Brownsville, was pres-
ented in a group of selections, ac-
companied by Mrs. Darrel Jack-
son.
Miss Kelsey Stuart of Travis
school presented a group of her
students in dialogue.
Frances Dempsey gave a song
and dance number accompanied
by her mother, Mrs. Frank Demp-
sey.
Out-going officers, Mesdames J.
H. Powell, E. H. Haire, and Mae
Foster were assisted by Mesdames
Scott Trotter, Vaughn Clarke, and
Miss Pearl Wahler, in-coming of-
ficers in hostess duties. Mrs. A. J.
Pollard was in charge of decora-
tions.
