Visits Parents
Mrs. LeRoy Adam spent
the Christmas holidays in
the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel O.
Rodriguez. While here, she
also visited in the home of
her grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jose L. Rivera.
Mrs. Adam resides in
Missoula, Mont., while her
husband, Capt. Adam, is
serving his second tour in
Vietnam. She is the former
Miss Linda Rodriguez.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry John-
ston and daughter of Hous-
ton were also visiting the
Mercedes families over the
holidays.

of Mrs. A. A. Jones Sr., and
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Young
over the holidays were Mrs.
Paul Cuplean and Mrs.
M. M. Phillips of T ulsa,
Okla., Mrs. Arthur Brad-
dell, Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Boyd of Irving, Tex., and
Arthur A. Jones Jr., of Wa-
co.

Funeral services for Mrs.
Juanita G. Martinez, 88, who
died at her home Sunday,
January 5, at 3 p.m. were
Tuesday, January 7, at Our
Lady of Mercy Catholic
Church. Burial followed at
the Catholic Cemetery.
Rosary was said at Garcia
and Trevino Funeral Home
chapel Monday night.
Mrs. Martinez, a Mer-
cedes pioneer, was born in
1909 in Mexico.
She is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Maria M.
Marroquin of Mercedes; six
sons, Francisco and Gua-
dalupe, both of Mercedes;
Jose of Weslaco; Trinidad
of Brownsville; Matilde of
Silroy, Cal., and Jesus of
San Jose, Cal.; 35 grand-
children and 40 great-
grandchildren.
Buried Here
Mrs. Bertha Cofer, 75, of
Alamo, formerly of Edcouch,
died December 25 at her
home after an illness of sev-
eral weeks. She was the
mother of Joe Witt of Elsa.
Other survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Arlene Staf-
ford of Washington D. C.;
three other sons, Carl Witt
of Midwest City, Okla., Ray
Witt of Great Falls, Mont.,
and Wayne Witt of U. S.
Armed Forces in Thailand;
14 grandchildren and one
great-grandchild, and four
sisters.
Funeral services were in
the McCaleb Funeral Home
of Weslaco December 30
with the Rev. Charles Bar-
ber officiating. Burial was
in the Ebony Grove Ceme-
tery, Mercedes.
Pall bearers were Elmo
Vivian, Bob Guinn, Sam
Rohr, Stanley Odom, Neal
Galloway and Dale Carlson.
