Vows Said
September 1
Pat Terry and Miss Linda
Coleman were united in mar-
riage at the T rinity Methodist
church in San Angelo Septem-
ber 1. The bridegroom's fa-
ther, the Rev. Paul Terry,
formerly of Edcouch, offi-
ciated at the wedding. Rev.
Terry is now pastor of the
Methodist church of Preer.
The Terry family had
lived at San Angelo where
Terry graduated from high
school as valedictorian and
was graduated from Michi-
gan State college as Magna
Cum T-aude with a B. S. De-
gree and is a graduate assist-i
ant there. The bride is now
a sophomore at the Univer-
sity. The couple will make
their home in East Lansing,
Mich.
The parents of the couple
are the Rev. and Mrs. Paul
Terry of Freer and Mr. and
Mrs. James Coleman of
Odessa.
Mr. and Mrs. James Pea-
lor took their daughter Sue to
San Angelo State College in
San Angelo and to visit their
daughter and son - in - law
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dud-
ley of Austin. Mr. Pealor
returned to Edcouch and
Mrs. Pealor went to Ter-
rell, Okla., where she will
visit Mr. and Mrs. C. D.
Collins and sons.
Mrs. Mathis Norris and
her son James Norris of Ed-
couch returned from attend-
ing the funeral of Mrs. Nor-
ris’ daughter’s mother-in-
law, Mrs. Ethel Johnson, at
Hurst, Texas.
Wedding In
San Marcos
Edward Charles Thomas,
son of Mr. and Mrs. E.
C. Thomas of Elsa, and Miss
Jean Ann Noton, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Noton of
Austin, were married Sep-
tember 14, in the First
Christian Church in San Mar-
cos. They are residing tem-
porarily at 1904 Santa Clara
in Austin until he enters mi-
litary service.
Teddy is a graduate of Ed-
couch-Elsa and received a
degree in business adminis-
tration from Southwest
Texas State University at
San Marcos last May.
Valley Visitors
From California
Mr. and Mrs. John Giese
of Bakersfield, Cal., were
guests at the Sun Valley
Motor Hotel. They visited
Mrs. Giese’s sister, Mrs.
Gladys Graham, and Mrs.
Frank Graham of Del Rio.
Mrs. Rogers the mother
of the two women and lives
in a rest home. Mrs. Gra-
ham accompanied the couple
to the Valley where they all
visited Mrs. Graham’s dau-
ghter and son-in-law Mr. and
Mrs. Adolph Thomae Jr. and
family of San Benito. Also
Mr. Giese sister, Mrs. L.R.
Moddle and other relatives
at Elsa and Lyford.
Delta Girls
Get Aid Caps
Carol Calloway, Cindy So-
rensen, Sharelene Weisser,
De-Netta Cellum of the Del-
ta area, who have worked as
Candy Stripers at Knapp Me-
morial Hospital for the past
summer were some of the 30
volunteer junior aids receiv-
ing a cap in the capping ser-
vices in the conference room
September 6. They were
commended by the hospital
administrator Charles Fos-
ter as the best group of
Candy Stripers since the
hospital opened as they had
donated more services.
Weekend
In Austin
Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Mc-
Cannon and their daughter-
in-law, Mrs. George McCan-
non and her daughter, Karen,
all of Monte Alto, spent the
Labor Day weekend in Austin
visiting the G. E. McCan-
non’s daughter and son-in-
law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Braun. Raymond McCannon
of Houston joined the parents
in visiting his sister and her
husband.

Duo Meet Held in Watson Home
Mrs. Bill Watson of Elsa
was hostess for the Pi Up-
silon Chapter of Beta Sigma
Phi and the Felea Club at
her home September 14.
Both organizations had their
opening rituals. The sorori-
ty sponsors the Felea club.
Mrs. W. T. Dudley Jr.,
presided when the Felea held
their election for their offi-
cers. Ellen Carlson was
elected president; Sharilyn
Cellum, vice president; El-
len Stump, secretary; Diane
Guinn, treasurer. Mrs. Wil-
liam Maloy, extension offi-
cer is assisted by Mrs. Ken-
neth Kachtik. The girls de-
cided to meet twice a month
on Sunday afternoon.
After refreshments the
Felea left for their homes
and Mrs. Dudley Jr. con-
ducted the sorority meeting
and plans were discussed
about serving the Pioneer
Luncheon in December. Mrs.
Kachtik had the program on
introductions and Invita-
tions”.
The next meeting will be
with Mrs. W. C. Dixon Sep-
tember 28 a white elephant
bingo party inviting rushees.
Mrs. Watson received the
door prize.
The first meeting was held
August 31 at the home of
the president, Mrs. W. T.
Dudley Jr. The committee
chairman gave their plans
for the year which were
adopted by the sorority.
Mrs. William Maloy gave
the program, “Libraries and
Your Topics”.
From La Marque
Mr. and Mrs, Scott Moil-
enauer and family enjoyed
the visit of his sister and
husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ches-
ter Coleman of LaMarque
on the weekend. The
visitors also visited with
Mrs. Coleman’s sister Mrs.
Ina Pollar of San Carlos and
her son and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Ernest Pollard and
daughter, who were visiting
from Houston.
Major Branch Returns From Vietnam
Major and Mrs. George
Branch and three children
were visiting his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Alva Branch
of Elsa for a week. They
left at the end of last month
for the Mayor’s new base at
the 20th Tactical Fighter
Wing, RAF, Wethersfield,
England.
Major Branch has just re-
turned from Phu Cat AB,
RVN 37 TF Wing 416
FT Squadron where he had
completed one year tour fly-
ing the F-100 Supersabre
in South Vietnam. During
his tour Maj. Branch was
stationed at Bien Hoa AB
North of Saigon, and at Phu
Cat AB in the Central High-
lands. He flew over 200
combat missions and has
been nominated for the
Bronze Star and Disting-
uished Flying Cross.
As, Squadron Operation
Officer Major Branch was
responsible for the entire
flying operation of the 416
TFS. The Squadron flew
direct air support and close
air support missions in
support of U. S. and ARUN
operations from the DMZ
to the Mekong River Delta.
Such major operations as
Ahleburo, Cedar Falls, and
Francis Marion were
supported.
The missions of the Air
Force in the was in the
south, Major Branch stated,
is to provide day and night
support to the ground forces
as required by them. “In
this respect”, he said, “My
pilots were capable of pro-
viding close air support to
beleaguered Army units as
close as fifty meters. Under
extreme conditions we have
gone in as close as ten
meters to pinned down army
units. It takes a highly
skilled capable pilot to pro-
vide this type at pin point
accuracy and the pilots fly-
ing in the Run were the
most dedicated and pro-
fessional I have ever had
the pleasure of working
with. During that time we
lost three planes and one
pilot/’
Major Branch will be
going to England to work at
the same base where he had
spent two years in training
before. He is a veteran
of World War 11 and the
Korean conflict. He holds
two Distinguished Flying
Crosses.
As Squadron Operation Of-

ily have also been visiting
his sister, Mrs. Yvonne Sei-
bert and children of Harlin-
gen and his aunt and uncle,
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Larson of
La Feria.
Delta Area News Briefs
Mr. and Mrs. Charles
(Chuck) Dudley of Austin are
the parents of a daughter,
Lisa Claire, born September
21 in Austin, weighing 7 lbs-
5 oz. Grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. James Pealor of
Edcouch and Mr. and Mrs, W.
T. Dudley of Elsa, Great-
grandmother is Mrs. James
Pealor Sr. of La Villa.
The parents are both grad-
uates of Edcouch-Elsa and
Mr, Dudley is a law student
at Texas University.
Mr. and Mrs. John Ri-
chardson of Longview are the
parents of a daughter, Mary
Ann, weighing 8 pounds, 11
oz. Mrs. Richardson is the
former Miss Alice Looking-
bill of Monte Alto. Grand-
parents are Mr. and Mrs.
George Lookingbill, of Mon-
te Alto and Mr. and Mrs.
T. C. Richardson of Long-
view, formerly of Lyford.
Mrs. Lookingbill returned
recently from her daughter’s
home.
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Dixon
of Elsa took their daughter
Deanne to Baylor University
of Waco where she enrolled
as a sophomore. The Dixons
went on to Dallas where they
visited relatives before re-
turning home.
Tamara and Julie Hadley,
who had been visiting their
grandmother, Mrs. Steve
Hood of Elsa, returned to
their home in Cheyenne,
Wyo. The girls left by plane
for Denver, Colo, where they
were met by their parents,
Major and Mrs. Walter Had-
ley, going by car to their
home.
Mrs. Elsie Saufferer of
Elsa returned to her home
recently. She had been in
the home of her son Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Saufferer and
family in Harlingen recuper-
ating from a broken arm.
She had fallen at her home
three weeks before. She still
has her arm in a cast.
Miss Kathy Cassidy of
Corpus Christi, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cassidy
of Elsa, underwent appen-
dectomy surgery in hospital
in Corpus Christi last week.
Miss Cassidy has been em-
ployed at a Hospital in
Corpus Christi the past year.

S. C. S. sub-district work
shop in San Benito Septem-
ber 9 from the First
Methodist Church of Edcouch
included Mrs. Hoke McKim,
Mrs. Leo Ross, Mrs. H.
L. Schmalzried, Mrs. Travis
Massey, Mrs. J.P.PealorSr.
and Mrs. Mathis Norris.
Mrs. Claude Guinh and
children of Houston returned
home on Sunday after visiting
her mother Mrs. Lois Mc-
Morries of Harlingen and
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Guinn
and Mrs. Ray Guinn and
family of Edcouch.
Lewis Freeman of Elsa re-
ceived word that his sister,
Mrs. Mary Alice Johnson of
Jackson, Mo., had died on
September 24. Mr. Freeman
left by plane for the funeral
at Byltheville, Ark. Mr. and
Mrs. Freeman and family had
visited in her home the past
summer.
Mrs. E. C. Thompson of
Elsa and her mother Mrs. B.
T. Stockton of Harlingen re-
turned by plane from visiting
their brother and son Mr. and
Mrs. H. P. Stockton in San
Francisco, Cal.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Pip-
kin and family have bought
the former home of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Cooksey at Elsa.
The Cooksey’s are employed
in the Victoria schools. Mr.
Pipkin is the new principal
of the Edcouch Elsa high
school. They have two chil-
dren.
Mr. and Mrs. Macon
Hughes are the parents of
a boy, Macon Travis, weigh-
ing 7 lbs. and 12 oz. Macon
is on the varsity team of
Rice University.
Grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. L. W. Hughes of Koun-
tze, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs.
A. V. Shull of Monte Alto.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wil-
lich of Raymondville are the
parents of a son, James Her-
bert, weighing 9 lbs. and 13
oz. in the Ramondville Mem-
orial Hospital. Conrad Wil-
li ch of Elsa is the paternal
grandfather.
Mrs. Francis Denham and
daughter Valeta of Longview
and Mrs. George Hitchcock
and daughter of Grand Prai-
rie visited Mr. and Mrs. J.
D. Burland and other friends
in Edcouch recently. Mrs.
Denham was a former ele-
mentary teacher at Central

years.
