returned to their home at Brady, af-
ter a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Mel

Mrs. Vernon Mikel attended the
bedside of her grandmother, Mrs.

Mrs. Lennox Hudson and daugh-
ter, Gayle, are spending a few days
at Paris while Gayle has her tonsils
removed at a hospital there.
June and Buddy Damron, child-
ren of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Dam-
ron, are visiting their grandmother,
Mrs. Sam Harbison at Dallas.
Gayle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lennox Hudson, was able to return
home Saturday after having her ton-
sils removed at a Paris hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Grover Spier and
children of Bogata, were guests part
of last week of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Tom Westbrook at Deport.
Peggy Carlock, daughter of Mrs.
Sam Taylor Jones of Bogata, under-
went a tonsilectomy at the Grant
hospital at Deport on Wednesday.
Mrs. Homer Brunett and Miss Tom
Underwood have returned from
Norfolk, Va., where they visited
Mrs. Brunett’s son, Billy Mac, sta-
tioned there with the Navy.
Miss Mildred Cooper and her
house guest, Miss Ester Cowfert of
New Orleans, La., enjoyed an outing
at Daingerfield Wednesday with sev-
eral friends from Mt. Pleasan.t
Dixon Hale and Mrs. Annie Mit-
chell of Rugby, were visitors in the
home of Mrs. Veda Montgomery on
Sunday. She returned with them
to spend Sunday night and Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Lowry had as
their guests last week their daugh-
ters, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Proctor and
son. Burl William of Ft. Worth and
Mr. and Mrs. Legrand Cato of Min-
eral Wells.
Gwendolyn Gill who has spent the
j past three weeks with her aunt, Mrs.
| Vernon Mikel, returned Tuesday to
| her home at Forney. Mrs. J. S.
' Criswell accompanied her home for
a few days’ visit at her home there.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Henry return-
ed to their home at Dallas on Sun-
day after spending the week end
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Hunt. Miss Margaret Stratton re-
turned home with them for a visit
Honoring Mr. and Mrs. Andrew
Cox of Oakland, Calif., Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Griffin were host and hostess
at a buffet supper at their home on
Wednesday evening. Guests were
Mr. and Mrs. William Rozell, Mr.
and Mrs. Lenox Hudson and daugh-
ter, Gayle, Jimmy and Miss Tom
Underwood.
Mrs. Billy Joe Pope was hostess
to the Francis Branch Community
Club Thursday afternoon at her
| home. One quilt top was pieced and
j refreshments of sandwiches, cookies
and punch were served to Mmes. J.
C. Kidd. Grover Speir, Bob Pope and
I Misses Roberta and Edith Kidd. Mrs.
J. C. Kidd will entertain the club
on July 5.
Another deep wildcat for Franklin
county got underway when the Pla-
cid Oil Company spudded and set
117 feet of surface pipe in its No. 1
Ramsey, A. Stroud survey, two
miles southeast of Mt. Vernon. The
wildcat is contracted to 9,000 feet
to test the Cotton Valley and might
be carried to the Smackover lime.

A family reunion was enjoyed on
Wednesday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. E. P. Watts at Johntown. Those
attending were Sgt. and Mrs. Ray-
mond Jennings and daughter, Carol
Sue of Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs Rus-
sell Gowan and children, Richard
and Carnelia Ray of Gilmer; Mr. and
Mrs. Edd Mauldin, Mrs. Mat Man-
kins, Mrs. Eddy Hall of Cuthand,
Pvt. Arvin Watts of Wichita Falls,
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Watts, Travis
Watts and son, Nelson Eddy.
All of the Watts family were pres-
ent except Mrs. Shine Maxwell of
California, and Helen Watts of Riv-
erside, Calif. The day was enjoyed
by everyone.

The Weathermen changed his ways
(he latter part 'of last week and '
started the thermometer on an up-
ward climb, reaching 96 on Monday.
Saturday, Sunday, Monday and
Tuesday were hot days for June.
