FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
CHRIST
ABOVE ALL
Mercedes, Texas
Some years ago there ap-
peared in the Poughkeepsie,
New York, Star and Enter-
prise, the following head-
line:
Two Persons Hurt in Rout
9-D Crash PeekskillWoman
Suffers Consciousness
That must have been a se-
vere accident, knocking this
woman into “conscious-
ness”! However, this was
done by the slip of the fin-
gers of the linotype opera-
tor. From the way this world
is moving, it is enough to
shock some of us into “con-
sciousness”. In fact, many
are getting their eyes “open-
ed”, which is perhaps but
another way of saying they
are suffering “conscious-
ness*. It isn*t a pretty world
we are walking up too. But,
then, it has never been since
sin entered. As one put it:
I had rather remain an “un-
believer** than to be as one
who “worships the ground
his head is buried in.’* It
was James Reston, vice
president of the New York
Times who said to Chou
En-Lai in an interview last
August, “We can resolve
the problems of the world
without Taiwan. It*s not a
question of sentiment, it*s
a question of reality and
power.” Evidently, our
President agrees. When the
Kaiser marched through
Belgium in violation of a
treaty, he said of the treaty,
“It is just a scrap of pap-
er.** In other words, “It’s
not a question of sentiment,
it*s a question of reality and
power.” It looks now as if
we will have to rewrite our
history books and take out
those sentences which con-
demned Kaiser “Bill**. But
there is one thing we cannot
erase, and that is the Word
of the Lord. It says, “Ven-
geance is mine. I will re-
play, saith the Lord.**

SUNDAY
MARCH
One-Plus Dialing
is coming.
Dial your own Long Distance calls
coast-to-coast...in just a matter
of seconds!
Mark Sunday, March 12, on your calendar.
That's the day One-Plus Dialing will be introduced in Edcouch and Elsa.
With the introduction of One-Plus Dialing, you will be able to dial many
of your own Long Distance calls almost as easily as calling across town. One-
Plus is fast, convenient, easy. It's thrifty, too, because One-Plus calls go
through at the low station-to-station rates.
With just a few turns of the dial, you can reach any of more than 100
million telephones in thousands of cities in just a matter of seconds.
The introduction of One-Plus Dialing is a major step in our continuing
program to make your telephone service better and better.
One-Plus Dialing... How it Works!
One-Plus is Fast and Easy. Just listen for the dial tone... then dial “1"
... plus the Area Code if it's different from your own ... then the distant
number.
Here’s how to dial 825-4199 in Denver (Area Code 303).*
1 + 303* + 825-4199
* No need to dial the Area Code if it's 512 — the same as yours.
