Champion butterfly
How far can a butterfly fly?
According to Ranger Rick magazine,
the world’s champion butterfly long-
distance flier la a kind of 'painted
lady. Each spring hundreds of
thousands of painted ladles leave
their winter home in North Africa
and Asia Minor. Most stop off in
southern England and spend the
summer there. But a few painted
ladies fly on to northern Iceland near
the Arctic Circle. That’s nearly 4000
miles, or almost one sixth of the way
around the world!
