proaching marriage of his daughter, Frances Carson to Bill Thomas,
son of Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Thomas. The couple plan to exchange vows

Smith Family Holds Reunion
A reunion of the family descen-
dants of Thomas J. Smith and Mary
Ann H. Smith was held at the
American Legion Hall, Sunday July
21.
After a covered dish luncheon a
short meeting was held.
This has been the 14th Smith reu-
nion since July, 1971.
The family enjoyed playing
dominoes, cards and talking about
old times.
There were forty-five members
present.
Those attending were Mr. and
Mrs. W.T. Smith, Annette, Dave,
Roy Jeremy Sowell, Sharon, Teresa,
Larry, Becky Simpson, Beulab
Cook, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Myrtle
and Paul Sutton, Jerry, Ann, Jerry,

Dana Williams, Jack, Joy, Jacob,

Six members of the Mathis FFA
chapter recently attended the an-
nual state convention, held in
Houston.
Attending from the local chapter
were Carolyn Messer, Tony Hicks,
Lynn Krebs, John Steelhammer,
Karen Steelhammer and Tom Bur-
ton.
Vocational Agriculture In-
structors for the local chapter are
Lonnie Messer and David Wieland.

Marie, born Wednesday, July 24.
Summer Marie weighed 7 pounds,
13 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Woman’s Club in Mineral Wells,
Texas.

Parents of the bride are Mr. and
Mrs. W.H. Ford of Mineral Wells.
The groom is the son of Mrs. Jon-
nie Gregory and the late Rex
Gregory of Mathis. He is also the
grandson of Willie Huntsinger
Williamson of Mathis.
Barbara Strackbein of Houston
was the bride’s matron of honor and
David Scott of San Antonio served as

and Claudia Steer; Lorrain, James,
Dennies, Amy Robbins and Kenny
Michaelson of El Campo; Sandy and
Billy Jack Robbins of Orchard; and
those not attending were missed by
everyone.
The following year the family
plans to have the family reunion the
third week of July 1986.
A vote will be held to who will be in
charge of the next two reunions.

ivory dress with a silk bouquet of
spring flowers.
Other members of the wedding in-
cluded Jay Warren, Joe Merritt,
Wade Smith and John Merritt.
Following the ceremony, wedding
cake and punch was served by Jean
Getsko and Janice Buckman at the
bride’s table and Sandy Merritt and
Juanita Reedy served the groom’s
table.
Mr. and Mrs. Gregory are residing
in Duncan, Oklahoma. Jon is a
jounalist with the “Duncan Ban-
ner.”

Special Exhibition
To Benefit Center
A special exhibition Taekwondo
match, between members of the
Mathis and Corpus Christi T.K.D.
clubs, will be held Aug. 10. All dona-
tions from the special event will go
towards a new youth center, cur-
rently planned in Mathis.
The matches will get underway at
8 that evening at the Mathis Little
League Park, located on Frio Street.
Trophies will be presented to the
winners in the various age divisions.
There will be no admission
charge, although donations will b
accepted, and the public is invited t
attend.
