X The annual Cancer Society Wine
I«nd Cheese party was the most
successful we have ever had, raising
over $10,000 to help "cure cancer
in our lifetime." It was held in the
beautiful home of Jan and Jim
Browning and close to 200 attended.
Many wonderful people who were
- unable to attend sent very generous
contributions and for that we are
grateful.
The Browning home was de-
signed in an Arizona/California
style with many interior arches and
lovely wrought iron railings. The
neutral backgrounds of walls and
furniture create a perfect setting for
jhe rich jewel tones of the beautiful
^American Indian art which Jan has
used throughout the house. The re-
sulting feeling of casual elegance is
a pleasure to behold. The host
group would like to thank the
Brownings for opening their lovely
home.
The South Llano County
' Republican Women sponsored a
very successful fundraiser last Fri-
day night. A "Picnic on the Island"
,was held at the fabulous pool on
Applehead Island. Lynn and Jim
fLane were Island hosts and Jim did
a great job of cooking all the hot
dogs. Betty Beck was event chair-
fhan and put in a lot of hours to get
everything just right.

early means one, two or three a.m.
Early to rise is some time after
twelve or one p.m. If you happen
to be one of those, you will not
hear opportunity knocking, or
things that go bump in the night.
Usually the most worthwhile
events occur after sunrise and before
sunset.
There has been so much activity
around Cherokee the past week or
so that everyone must have been
too busy to take the time to report
their news. So be prepared to read
about past events next week.
To anyone who is waiting for a
copy of Cherokee Country, a his-

patient. She says that the printer
has not completed her order but
promises the books will certainly
be out by mid-July. They are worth
waiting for.

June 10, is the date for the next

McCart. This was the New York
Times selection as best book of

has been on the best seller list for
more than eight months. Everyone
is welcome.
Why, seems to be the most asked
question and the least answered. If
some folks are asked why they do
this or that, Uteir answers may very
well be: "I don't know, just because
or it's none of your business”.
Should you have asked the question
in the first place? Think about it.
Remember the wise old adage,
Early to bed, early to rise makes a
person healthy, wealthy and wise?
It seems that a lot of people, like
young folks and out of town visi-
tors take the first part seriously and
