A Terrible Accident
Gerhard Siems, one of our
best and most esteemed farmers
died "Wednesday April 26th at
his home about three miles south
of Shiner. Mr. Siems was, liorn
January 22nd near Flatonia, At
the age of twelve years he came
to Lavaca County and had lived
here ever since.
In 1899 he married Miss Hed-
Avig Wick, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Wick, Sr. Mr. Siems
was a good man, a prosperous
farmer, well liked by everybody
and had many iriends.“About ten

Father Kasper celebrated a holy

Catholic Cemetery. The pall-
bearers were: John Kioesel, Sr.,
Mathias Bleier, Otto Henkhaus,
Wm. Zappe Albin Hummel, and
Anton Blier,

seph’s Society and the members
of the lodges attended iii a body,

funerals held here and his graye
was decorated with many beauti-
ful flowers, May he rest in

Shiner Fire Mains Arrive»
New firo hydrants and mains
have arrived for the extension of
the water mains of the municipal
light and water mains in this city
The extension of the residen-
tial section cf the city makes it
necessary to extend the water
mains. The plant was purchased
by the ciiy several .years ago and
has been very successful from
the beginning.
The new mains will be much
larger than the old ones, being
6 inches which is a requirement
of the lire insurance companies.
The work of laying them will be-
gin at once.
