pursuant to a call issued on
March 6th a large number of the
friends of Hen. Geo. P. Burgess
Tuesday,
WE INVITE
met at Yoakum
March 14th to devise ways and
means to bring about his nomin-
ation and electioij to congress.
The meeting was held in the
Elks hall and was called to order
by I J.. W. Ragsdale, Esq., who
stated the object of the meeting.
Mr.. 0. S. E. Holland was elected
chairman of the meeting and J. 0.
Habermacher, secretary.
Strong addresses were deliy-
ered in Mr. Burgess’ favor by
G. S. E. Holland, A M. Goesch
of Platen!a, Dr. H. B. LeMay of
-Bay City, J. W. Ragsdale of Vic-
toria and J. W. Rainboit cf Gon-
zales. In reply to |he charge
that Mr.-Burgess after announc-
ing as a candidate for the U. S.
Senate, had returned Eind entered
the race for his old position as
congressman, Mr. Rainbolt stated
that conditions had £>o changed
that Mr. Burgess decided on
the advice of bis friends to hold
his place in the old ninth district
where he could be more useful
to his constituents. Vl
After the speaking Mr. J. W.
Ragsdale was elected chairman
of the central committee, with
power to appoint .chairmen for
each county in the district.
