Incumbent U. S. Rep. Bob
Eckhardt has drawn more
fire from the camp of his
Republican challenger,
Jack Fields.
Houston Schweitzer,
Fields’Baytown area cam-
f1 paign chairman, criticized
Eckhardt for his vote to
give $75 million to Marxist
Nicaragua.
“This is the third time in
less than a year Eckhardt
has voted recklessly to give
our tax dollars to com-
munist countries,’1
Schweitzer said.
Baytonian Schweitzer ad-
ded he was also disturbed
that Eckhardt voted
against legislation deman-
ding Nicaragua hold free
elections by the end of next
year hi order to receive the
money.
Schweitzer said Fields’
plans call for him to Join
“Coalition on Peace
Through Strength” if
elected to congress this fall.
The organization opposes
aid to unfriendly nations
and has 220 members
within the ranks of con-
gress.
“We aren’t represented
by Eckhardt, who sends our
taxes to communists,”
Schweitzer said.
“It is time we had a con-
gressman — Jack Fields,”
he added.

Dear Editor:
Saturday is a very impor-
tant . day for a lot of
Americans, but it’s mostly
important to registered
Voters in West Chambers
CouhtyJ Anyone who is
civic-minded and knows
what’s going on should
vote.
If we want and do need
more law enforcement,
vote for a fulltime con-
stable. One who will be fair
and just is Ken Hilzen-
Dear Editor:
While listening to
political discussions by peo-
’ pie in all walks of life, they
all seem to think something
has to be done about the
political mess our govern-
ment is in.
They are all saying we
need a change. I most cer-
tainly agree. My friends, I
think I have a good formula
i for making this change.
First, we have to get mad
about the way our govern-
ment is being run, and se-
cond we have to go to the
polls and exercise the only Dear Editor
IE lwi»i to commend lo you
left and that is to vote for a Ron McLemore
change; third, let’s s art Bayt0W candldate for
being a nation of problem justice of lhe ^ For
solvers instead of being a eight ars Ron has
nation of stay-at-home represented the City of
critidzefs. Baytown as prosecutor in
We all know we have been Municipal Court . and I
lied to about the energy1 r -“—8——
crisis. We all know that
high interest rates and
runaway inflation jvill not
solve the problems we are
• in. We all know that this
country should be so
. .militarily strong that we
won’t be kicked around by
third-rate countries.
Fourth, the problems we
have cannot be blamed on
the president. In our own
Eighth Congressional
District, we have a man
who is only interested in
making a career of being a
congressman. .
This man is Bob
Eckhardt. From his voting
record you know he is sup-
posed to represent the peo-
ple of the Eighth District.
He votes most of the time
with northeastern liberal
congressmen,
- My friends, I would like
to recommend a man who is Dear Editor:
3 justice of the peace in
Saturday’s Democratic
primary.
When I worked in the
Baytown Police Depart-
ment, 1 worked with Ron,
who is iegal advisor to the
department with the title of
assistant city attorney.
I found Ron to be compe-
tent, capable and honest.
He will make a fine justice
of the peace. I urge you to
vote for him Saturday .
