Austin.—Texas deer hunters
have provided a gigantic Christ-
mas gift for about 2500 patients
in the four state TB hospitals.
More than 400 deer hides
have been received for their
use in leather work, L. M. Rath-
bone of the Austin Taxidermist
Studio, reported. Mr. Rathbone
is donating tanning services
and has paid shipping costs on

advised by the hunters they
were for use by the TB pa-
tients, Mr. Rathbone reported.
Hospital officials will be able
to announce the gift during
Christmas observance in the
sanatoriums, according to Mrs.
Alice Coombs, director of oc-
cupational therapy for the state
hospital system.
“The soft leather will mean
many hours of enjoyment to the
patients,” Mrs. Coombs said.
“Occupational therapy is a
major need in our TB hospitals.
These hides by helping to fill
that need will contribute ma-
terially to the hospitals’ pur-
pose of getting sick people
well.”
Mr. Rathbone expects holi-
day hunters to swell the grow-
ing supply of buckskin and re-
ports size and quality of the
i hides improving as the hunting
activity moves south where he
declares the “big bucks roam.”
Hunters wishing the patients
to receive the hides may simply
address them to the Austin
Taxidermist Studio, Austin,
Texas. But they should be
marked “For TB Patients.”
