I read the other day about an unusual message that resulted
when a storm tore away part of a Christmas billboard greeting. Under-
neath the greeting, part of a Yellow Pages billboard was revealed.
The combined message of the two boards was “Peace on earth —
find it fast in the Yellow Pages."
Well, you can find a lot of things in the Yellow Pages and
save yourself a lot of time and walking. It’s just too bad the Yellow
Pages can't lead us to the most wonderful commodity — peace.

When someone mentions “Christmas" to you, what do you
think of Shepherd , on a hill a bright star in the sky ....
mistletoe .... “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas" .... holly ....
tree .... gilts . . children ..
If you're like me. you think of all these and more. You also
think of people you care about. Your folks, close friends, far-flung
relatives, all sorts of people you've grown to know and like.
I hope you’ll be able to be with your folks and friends during
this holiday season. Still, if the miles keep you apart — remember
you can get together by telephone.

Know who mzde the first Christmas tree lights?
Well, considering the name of this column, the answer
shouldn't be too much of a surprise — a telephone man. Here's bow
it happened:
Back in the early 1000’s, Ralph E. Morris' little boy crawled
under the Christmas tree, upset one of the wax candles and singed
his hair. Morris prvmptly announced there would never be another
flame n> ar a Christinas tree in his house. Then, he got to thinking
and remembered the switchboard down at the telephone office and
how, at certain times oi the day, it often reminded him of a Christmas
tree.
So what did ne do but buy several dqeen switchboard limps
which he then soldered to wires to make them a string of lights. He
used colored paper <o cover the lamps, and so it was — the first
electric lights on a Christmas tree!
