The football mama that holds sway every year at this
season is well under way and every indication punts to it
being as zany as ever
Carthage and Beckville fans will join thousands who will
flock to high school stadiums all over Texas to sit on hard
seals jammed together like sardine* in all kind to weather
They’ll eat tons to hot dogs drink gallons to coffee or soda
pop yell until they re hoarse and perform like lunatics if the
home team does well
Uively lassie* will prance in front to well drilled and
colorfully garbed bands prec isioned drill teams will perform
and vivacious cheer leaders will leap scream and go through
physical contortions with their bodies that will cause their
elders to grimace in pain
And well conditioned well trained heathly lads will knock
each other down with a vengeance yet at the end will usually
clasp the hand to respec ted opponents and compliment them
for playing a good game
Yep. it is all pretty whacky
But is it really bad9
We ddon t think so Certainly not if it is balanced out with
other phases of our school and community life In fact,
football can have many good benefits for school youngsters
as well as adults of the community It is something we can
rally around It become* a symbol of our community It
draw* us together in a common bond to lend community
support
Naturally we all want to win every game And we have a
nght to expect that our boys will be adequately trained to
give a representative performance Hut that is all we have a
right to expect good preparation from the coacht-s, a good
effort by the boy* and gt*>d performances by our tiand and
dnll team If our football player* win. that s great, but if they
don't but still give it the (test they have, this should I* fine,
too
So now that the zany season is here, let's join the other
whacky ones by going Io the games and having a Itarrel of
fun
