BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE SANGER EDUCATION FOUNDATION
By Roger Ballas
Sanger staff writer
SANGER - “I guess,”
Gavin Dillard, 9, reluctantly
answers when asked wheth-
er he felt like a hero after
saving his mother’s life. “I
really don’t feel OK about
it. She’s the only thing I got
- my daddy’s been gone 7
years now.”
Gavin was recognized
last Thursday by the Sanger
Fire Department just be-
fore a fire prevention and
safety presentation at Clear
Creek Intermediate School.
He received a framed cer-
tificate and was given a SFD
cap which his principal,
Ms. Williams, told him he
could wear the entire day at
school.
His mother, Theresa
Dillard, was there to intro-
duce her son and explain
what happened that evening
in early September. Her
parents, Butch and Nina
Delcambre, along with her
best friends Lacey Horton
and Sherry Riley were also
there.
Gavin’s mother’s voice
cracked as she told the
fourth-graders and gathered
teachers and staff how it
was her son who called 911
and held her hand until help
arrived.
Michelle Williams, an
LP with the fire department,
told Gavin’s classmates how
he called 911 when his mom

from Sanger residents
and businesses.
“The Milbockers
are great friends of ours.
It broke our hearts to
hear that Tim was diag-
nosed with cancer, and
we wanted to show our
love, help and support for
them,” Kim said. “We
have had such a positive
response with donations
