Mr. Smith was bom
September 9, 1926 in Carthage,
to John Lamar and Thelma
Young Smith. He attended
Carthage High School and
Centenary College in
Shreveport, La and was married
to Sue Waldrop for 56 years. He
served in the United States Navy
in the South Pacific during World
War II and the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Smith was employed with
Baroid Division of NL Industries
for 39 years. During this time he
spent 15 years in Singapore,
Indonesia and Scotland. While in
Southeast Asia, he enjoyed
knowing and working with mis-
sionaries. In Scotland, he and his
wife were involved in sUutmgjhe
Aberdeen. Mr. Smith retired in
1986 as Baroid's Sales Manager
of the United Kingdom. Upon
his return to the United States, he I
opened Smith & Rogers in I
Carthage, Texas and operated his
store for 12 years before retiring '
for a second time.
Mr. Smith enjoyed his retire-
ment hi Mdeaway, Ttexas and
Salida, Colorado where he
enjoyed church, friends, family,
golf and his belbved dog, Sam.
He had a deep love for his fami-
ly and they for him. He will be
missed by all who knew him.
