has received. She realized that
one of her greatest accomplish-
ments is learning that “things
worthwhile are things worth
working for”, recognizing what
the real values in life are.
She is an active member of
Eastside Baptist Church and
enjoys teaching Bible school,
participating in the youth group
and the fellowship with her
church family.
Charity Downing is the
daughter of Dale P. and Arlou
Downing, and the granddaughter
of Henry and Juanita Downing,
and Arland and Doris Wheeler.
She is also the great granddaugh-
ter of Mae Hall. •
She is graduating with a 96.83
has been an NCA All American
and UCA All Star.
Ashley participated in basket-
ball four years, was captain this
year, and lettered two years. She
received Honorable Mention and
Second Team two years. She was
also selected as Honorable
Mention volleyball two years.
Other sports included cross
country — four years, tennis -
three years, track — three years,
and golf — three years.
She has been a class officer
for four years, holding the
offices of vice president for two
and president for two. She was
grade point average. She plaps to
attend Panola College, then
transfer to the University of
Texas in Austin. After she takes
some college courses in art
study, ihe will make a more
informed decision on which
direction to go with the rest of
her education.
Charity is active in many
extracurricular activities includ-
ing being a member of the varsi-
ty cheerleading squad for four
years, captain senior year, varsi-
ty basketball four years, varsity
volleyball four years, captain
senior year, and doubles’ tennis
four years, advancing to region-
al last year.
She has been in Student
Council for four years, one year
chosen Class Favorite,
Personality Plus, Wittiest, Miss
Hustle, and won the Athletic
Highest Academic award. She
was also chosen Basketball
Sweetheart one year and
Homecoming Candidate for
three years.
Ashley has been on the
Superintendent’s Honor Roll
four years and earned perfect
attendance two years, and was
chosen to attend ETRYS. She
also received the Wendy
Heissman award. Woodman of
the Year award, Academic
Mathematics award, United
States National Scholar award,
VFW Scholarship, and the Go
Texan Scholarship.
She has worked diligently to

Downing was voted by her

homecoming queen during her
sophomore year, and was voted
2004 prom queen. She received
the Texas Excellence award, was
nominated for Who’s Who four
years, received the Technology
Education award and the English
Merit award.
Thomas recommended the
commissioners research what
other cities have done in similar
situations and make a decision at
a later date.
An agreement was reached
between the city and Turner
Alumni Association to sponsor a
grant for playground equipment
to be placed in a park on the east
side of town.
A resolution was passed to
establish the 2004-05 Old Glory
Freedom Festival. Thomas said
the resolution must be passed
each year the festival is held.
An agreement between the
city and Success Rocks was
approved for the use of a rock-
climbing wall at the festival. The
city’s attorney Robert
Underwood has reviewed the
insurance liability for the wall to
be used.
The Carthage City are regulatory devices that are
