PEARSALL - The Texas Edu-
cation Agency visited Pearsall
I S.D during the first week of De-
cember 1992 for the purpose of
'evaluating its accreditation status
and determining the overall effec-
tiveness of its instructional pro-
gram and planning The district
was identified for a visit because of
low’ student achievement on the
statewide TAAS tests and because
of disparities between different stu-
dent populations on that tests.
The job of the accreditation team
that visits is partially to determine
if the district recognizes its prob-
lems and if it is engaged in plan-
ning a nd pract ices designed to alle-
viate the low student achievement
results
The findings for that visit were
made public by the Board of Trust-
ees during its regular January Board
meeting Those findings indicate
that Pearsall I S D w ill continue to
judging at 10:00a m., and the Steer
judging after the lamb judging.
The Country Store will have
be designated as fully accredited
The accreditation process was
seen by district employees as a posi-
tive and helpful event for Pearsall.
A number of citizens were pre-
vailed upon by the dist rict to present
the current strengths and weak-
nesses of the school district to state
agency personnel. In addition, the
agency conducted interviews with
many of the teachers and staff at
each campus District and campus
presentations were given by the
Superintendent, Principalsand oth-
ers stressing both the strengthsand
weaknesses of the district
The district was lauded for its
accreditation presentation and have
been asked by surrounding districts
for help in preparing for upcoming
state visits to those districts
