The Texas Safety Association to-
day sounded an appeal to the 50th
Legislature to enact a six - point
traffic control program for Texas
streets and highways.
In an open letter addressed to
members of Uie legislature and
bearing the names of 58 concurring |
Texas organizations, Texas Safety I
Association President A F Allen
of Dallas called for the enactment
of the following:
1. An increase of 200 additional
men for the Texas highway patrol
to bring total strength up to 450
men.
2 Adoption ol model traffic code
for uniform traffic regulations.
3 Registration of driver license
fees to administration of the driver
license law and for operation of the
Texas Highway Patrol
4 Adequate appropriations for
program of driver education and
training courses in schools under
administration of the State Educa-
tion Department
5. Adequate appropriations for
program ol driver education and
training courses in schools under
administration of the State Educa
tion Department
The recommendations closely
followed an announcement by the
Texas Department of Public Safety
tliat the 1946 traffic fatality toil
would likely exceed 2.000 deaths.
'rhe association further esti-
mated that 50,000 persons had suf-
fered personal inuries with an eco-
nomic loss to Texas approximating i
100 million dollars last year.

Lake plans a natural gas transac-
tion tax estimated to bring be-
tween 830 000.000 and 850.000 000 an-
nually.
