• Twenty-one children will honor
ODe Denton mother today. Not all
will be in Denton, but they will be
thinking of her just the same.
Most of them are grandchildren
and great grandchildren, but Mrs.
J. Headlee is still “mother" to
them all. And her home at 2320
Palmer Drne is a constant mecca
for family reunions.
Mr. and Mrs. Headlee came to
Denton when the oldest of their
six children, five girls and a boy,
graduated from high school. They
thought Denton would make an
ideal home, because they could edu.
cate their children in the two col-
leges
• They had lived in Teague, a
small community south of Dallas,
since their marriage 54 years ago.
^Mr Headlee was a grade school
deacher. Since coming to Denton he
•has been an automobile dealer and
'owner of a finance company
• “AJL of our children attended
•college," Mrs. Headlee said. “The
’girls went to TSCW and the boy to
•North Texas, when TSCW was CIA
•and NTSC was called Teacher’s
‘College.”
‘ Several of the Headlees' 10 grand-
children also have lived with them
while attending college in Denton.

The Denton Fire Department has j
withdrawn it* request that the
county purchase an emergency res-
cue boat for u»e by the depart-
ment, Fire Chief Tom Robinson
has announced.
The request was made several
weeks ago by Robinson before a

The wooden boat formerly used
by the department in retrieving
drowning victims in Denton County
is no longer operative, Robinson
pointed out:
The fire chief said that if the
citizens of Denton and Denton 1
County appreciate the Denton Fire .
Department’s efforts in the past
and think the department could1
render a further service, the1
group “would be happy to accept
and use in emergency work a boat
donated for that purpose."
Robinson explained that the
department could not accept the
task of raising the funds itself,
but would be glad to receive the
donation from any group.
It was estimated that a new boat
would co»t $274. and a new motor
$250. thus bringing the total cost

Mrs. Headlee’s daughters took!
cooking and homemaking courses
in college, but they never actually
received any instructions from
their mother.

Mrs. Headlee’s kitchen has a
