• Teenagers form one of the big-
gest age groups of residents in the
Greater Denton Area.
And they're not forgotten in the
Record-Chronicle.
Most teenagers are, of course,
in school most of the year, and it’s
only natural that school activities
Rlgnawnnenrpatcnu.
That’s why coverage of teenage
news in the Grantor Denton Area
is so detailed and that’s why it
includes school news, too.
THE DETAILS
For instance, a meeting of a
board nt education might not seem
to have much bearing on the av-
erage teenager. But if that school
board should change its policy on
some matter as requiring a new
course for graduation, you can bet
that teenagers will want to read
the details.
Another popular teenager fea-
ture in the Record-Chronicle to
the column “Bronco Tales" about
activities in Donum High School.
Written by David Robinson, who'll
be a senior at DHS next year, the
column gives high school students
a new block at their own activi-
ties.
Plans are already in the making
to expand the coverage of teenage
news by next September. Just like
other segments of the news, the
Record - Chronicle continually
seeks to keep up with — and
lead — in the field of covering
were made.”

tornadoes that took a toll of
more than IN lives were report-
ed across the United States dur-
ing the first five months of this
year, the Weather Bureau said
Wednesday.
The previous five-month high
was 392 in 1955 The bureau said,
however, that the sharp increase
was due more to better reporting
than to an actual Increase in the
number of storms.
The same storms that spawned
most of these tornadoes brought
record-breaking rainfall in the
Southwest and caused frequent
flooding throughout most of Texas
and Oklahoma and parts of Lou-
isiana, Arkansas, Kansas and
Missouri.
Last month alone, at least 324
tornadoes were reported to the
Weather Bureau. This prelimi-
nary total to a record for May or
any other month. The previous
May record was 219 in 1955.
The April count-was 236 torna-
does. more than double the pre-
vioua April record of 114 in 1956.
The Weather Bureau said the
BN tornadoes reported during
January. February, March and
April far exceeds any previous to-
tal reported for the first four
months of a year. Texas had 95
of the 800 and Oklahoma had 46.
tion on topics of ths times. In pre-
vious columns, Gilbert's teams
have questioned young people on
everthing from thier ideas on going
steady to how much dad helps with
the dishes and how much they
know about current affairs.

Highway Plan To
Have Local Help
AUSTIN on—State Highway En-
gineer D. C. Greer said Wednes-
day that county judges and city
mayors throughout Texas had been
asked to help get the new 50-50
highway right of way plan started.
“I wrote them a letter yester-
day telling them how they would
got work started on needed proj-
ects, although we will be getting
no new right of way funds until
March 1, 1966." Greer said.
The new plan, passed by the
83th Legislature, - calls for a 10
per cent increase In vehicle regis-
tration fees to allow the state to
pay up to 50 percent of the right
of way for U.S. or state highways.
“Actually any U.S. or state high-
way to eligible under the bill."
Greer said. The specific projects
we will authorize will be based on
the need and on the money avail-
able."
Greer said county judges and
mayors could start work right
away by consulting with district
highway engineers over projects
to receive priority. '
