Americans have been drinking more alcohol over the
past two decades but are increasingly laying off the
suds.
That hasn’t prevented some of the largest beer
companies from driving sales higher by taking
advantage of consumers’ shift to craft and premium
beers that command higher prices.

Robberies
• A donut store in the 2700 block of Market Street
was reportedly robbed about 4:15 a.m. Monday, ac-
cording to Baytown police spokesman Lt. Steve Dorris.
Dorris said an employee went out the back of the
store to empty trash and was struck over the head by a
man who then demanded his money, wallet and keys.
The robber followed him back into the store and took
the cash from the register as well. The robber and an as-
sociate entered the employee’s car, apparently looking
for something to steal, then left on foot.
• A robbery was reported at a convenience store in
the 1800 block of Massey Tompkins about 7 a.m. Mon-
day. The employee who was robbed said a man entered
the store and demanded money from the register and
cartons of cigarettes. The employee complied and the
robber fled on foot. The robber was described as a black
man wearing dark clothing.
• A man reported being robbed at gunpoint about 8:15
p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of Northwood Drive as
he was locking the door of his apartment. He said that
three men came up behind him, pointed a handgun at
him and demanded his wallet. The suspects were de-
scribed as being in their late teens or early 20s. Two
were black and one was Hispanic, he told police.
Disturbances
• A woman reported that she was working at a con-
venience store when a customer’s card was declined
when she tried to purchase a drink. The customer be-
came upset and left the store without paying for the
drink.
The employee followed the woman to the car, where
the customer backed over the employee’s foot.
• Two Baytown men, one 30 and one 31, got into an
altercation in the vicinity of Stonebrook and Berkley
Court about 7:20 a.m. Sunday which resulted in the
30-year-old being shot in the arm at least once.

Impeachment
trial’s closing
arguments
target voters
WASHINGTON (AP) —
Closing arguments Mon-
day in President Donald
Trump’s impeachment trial
were directed more toward
voters than to sway the
outcome, one final chance
to influence public opinion
and set the record ahead of
his expected acquittal in the
Republican-led Senate.
The House Democratic
prosecutors drew on the
Founding Fathers and com-
mon sense to urge senators
— and Americans — to see
that Trump’s actions are not
isolated but a pattern of be-
havior that, left unchecked,
will allow him to “cheat”’
in the 2020 election.
Democrat Rep. Adam
Schiff implored those
few Republican senators
who have acknowledged
Trump’s wrongdoing in the
Ukraine matter to prevent a
“runaway presidency” and
stand up to say “enough.”
“For a man like Donald
J. Trump, they gave you a
remedy and meant for you
to use it. They gave you an
oath, and they meant for
you to observe it,” Schiff
said. “We have proven
Donald Trump guilty. Now
do impartial justice and
convict him.”
The president’s defense
countered the Democrats
have been out to impeach
Trump since the start of his
presidency.
All that’s left, as the
Senate prepares to acquit
Trump on charges that
he abused power and ob-
structed Congress, is for
Americans to decide in the
November election, as the
third presidential impeach-
ment trial in the nation’s
history comes to a close.
Most senators acknowl-
edge the House Democratic
managers have essentially
proven their case.

tober 5,1929, and died in
