The cuts are solely in the proposed increases in
the budget as set by the outgoing President Carter.
Thus, for those who look for a smaller budget
and less federal spending in the next budget year
than in the last, will be sorely disappointed. It just
won’t be so. But, if Reagan gets his way in Congress,
the increased spending will bp less than first thought.
President Reagan is sticking pretty close to his
campaign promises; however, across the country
words were put in candidate Reagan’s mouth that
were never his - just those of over - zealous sup-
porters.
Reagan never said he would cut needed welfare
funds during the campaign, but did say the people
who were drawing various checks from the govern-
ment, but who were not deserving of those checks
would be pared from the rolls.
Much of his smaller budget cuts will come from
this area.
