Highway Patrol Captain Makes Appeal To Motorists

Captain Ed Pringle made their holiday traveling
m appeal to Central Texas early this year.

The Captain has predic-
ted heavy traffic on Texas
highways during Christ-
mas and New Year since
the economy has increased
and the gasoline supply is
good.
Captain Pringle pointed
out several conditions that
will affect Central Texas
motorists - one being that
Texas traffic fatalities are
down 12 percent statewide.
However, Central Texans
have not done so well in
that: 162 fatalities have oc-
curred in this 22 county
area during the first 11
months of 1983 compared to
onlyl39 for the same period
last year. The Captain said
that 3,134 DWI's have been
arrested during the first six
months of 1983 compared to
2,251 during the same
period in 1982. It's an old
adage, but a good one, "If
you drink, don't drive."
Captain Pringle went on to
say that while seat belts
are definitely a life saving
plus in most any type ac-
cident, Central Texans just
don't wear them in most
cases.
A lot of road construction
work is being done and
many accidents are oc-
curing due to speeders and
those who follow too
closely.
