We received a clipping from
the June 6, 1991 "Jeff Davis
County Mountain Dispatch" in
a plain envelope, so we cannot
thank the sender.
The photo was taken in 1912,
of eight young girls dancing
in front of a tree in full bloom.
The costumes were long,
beautiful dresses for half of the
group. The rest were dressed
as boys in knee length trousers.

Manuel Lujan is using a cane.
It seems he fell at school. He
has had the usual X-rays and
trips to the doctor. He is
worried about the work he
needs to be doing at school.
He is tops as a custodian, we

is doing great. Eloisa will
soon be having chemo therapy.

D. W. Carson, had a hospital
stay recently. We hope that
all of these people will soon
be at home and feeling well
again.
Ann Neely, too, will be
having chemotherapy again -
we remember her, too.

We are proud of Craig Gentry,
too. These young people
really let the rest of Texas
know where Hudspeth County
is! Great kids.

While sitting out in the hall
on the Fourth of July - really
enjoyed a visit with Tiny
Wright and daughter Ellen
Tidwell. Was pleasant seeing
Jack and Doris Fry, but they
left early.
Judge Neely spent several
hours at the register, so Julia
and I told him he looked as if
he could use a nap. He did not
argue, and soon left.
The Bishops, from Desert Out-
post were visiting and looking
at the displays.
Cuco Ramirez and friends
came by to look at the exhibits,
so we sang the Happy Birthday
song to him. Cuco once told
me that he came into the U. S.
at Bosque Bonito at age two,
in relatives arms.
There was a nice picture of
Cuco in a group of other soldiers
in uniform in WWII.

The Sierra Blanca Chamber
of Commerce met July 10, 1991,

present to enjoy a salad, a
delicious plate, apple pie a la

choice.
Old and new business was
taken care of and reports made.
Plans were made for a bingo
at the Friendship Park on August
3, to raise money for finishing
the signs. Food will be avail-
able for those who wish it.
What Is A Saint?
A little girl was visiting a beautiful cathedral with her aunt. It was
late afternoon and the sun’s rays were streaming through a stained
glass window that featured the figures of several saints. The little
girl pointed t one of the figures standing out in the strong light and
asked, ”Who is that?" "That’s Saint Peter," the aunt replied.
Then pointing to another, the girl asked who that one was. "That’s
Saint John, “ was the reply. When she pointed to another she was
told, "That’s Saint James."
Then, with a sigh of satisfaction, the little girl said, "Well, now I
know what a saint is. A saint is somebody the light shines through."

Leia Weatherby, sister of the late Dorothy Massey, was dressed

Perhaps there is some material on the Masseys and Weatherbys
filed in the museum, and we can put the clipping there.
We thank whoever sent it - Ruby Coor or Ruth Moore would be
our guess.

We had two nice showers in the afternoon of July 11. My neighbor
said that my rain registered . 6 and a bug! We hope this is the
start of a rain we so desperately need.

Old friend, Olan George, took off June 21, in his neat little
motor home. To say that he is enjoying this vehicle - which is
complete an every way - would be putting it mildly.
Among his travels to Abilene, San Angelo, Fort Stockton and
Pecos - Olan found time to stop and enjoy.
A three day celebration at Pecos, was July 3, 4, and 5. Olan
attended the rodeo July 3 when men and horses were fresh. They
even let him park very near the grandstand, and he also spent
the night there in his little home.
Olan visited a son in the Big Spring hospital for two days - and
also spent some time in Fort Stockton on the acreage he gave to
his children.
Olan returned July 9, but he will leave again soon to attend to
some things in Fort Stockton.
I have always referred to myself as a gypsy, but I do believe
Olan is ahead of me there. My little "nest" does not have
wheels, and I will soon be moving in.

We were sorry to read of the death of C. L. (Doc) Sonnichsen, 90,
in Tucson, June 29, 1991.
Dr. Sonnichsen was an historian and author of 14 books. I remem-
ber "Tularosa". He was a retired dean at UTEP where he taught
for 41 years.
Leon Metz stated that this man had been a great help to him in
his gathering of history.
It seems we were told that Dr. Sonnichsen was married to a Lewis.
We do not know which branch, but Cordelia would!

"Shep" and Mary Evelyn Shepard attended a Chadbom Reunion
on Father's Day. This annual event is held on the ranch which is
between Deming and Columbus - 15 miles south of Deming.
One hundred members from all over attended. There were
originally five boys and one girl in the family. They are first
cousins of Mrs. Shepard.
The house has been added to - with the reunion in mind. A long
porch or pavilion is complete with stove, refrigerators and tables.
On the west side is a large trumpet vine for shade, and dripping
water to make a natural cooling system.

only time die had to call.
