Between noon and 3 p. m., the
hours Christ hung on the cross.
Rome's activity was hushed. Shops
were closed and streets were almost
deserted as the churches absorbed
a large part of the population.
There, somber black and purple
draperies shrouded the sacred im-
ages and altars in mourning. Lack
at candles and tapers added to the
commemorative gloom. ’
The great pealing bells were still-
ed in a silence which will be broken
when they ring forth with glad tid-
ings Saturday noon. At that hour
the Holy Sacrament will be return-
ed to the main altar of St. Peter's
from the Pauline Chapel in joyous
observance of the Resurrection.

“Divine power begins where hu-
man power stops.” declared the
evangelist, and cited the wedding at
Cana where the servants filled the
water jars for Jesus to perform" his
miracle of turning water into wine
and the rolling of the stone away
from Lazarus’ tomb. “Jesus himself
could have filled the jars and roll-
ed the stone away Without effort,
said Green, "but he wanted the peo-
ple to realise that great spirtual
blessings come from a combination
of personal effort and faith; the
people could do that much for
themselves, and when their ability
was exhausted, Jesus consummated
the work at hand. Have you ever
gone to God in prayer and then ex-
erted your strongest efforts toward
attaining that for which you pry-

GOOD LAXATIVE
Many folks get such re-
freshing relief by taking
Black-Draught for constipa-
tion that they prefer it to
other laxatives and urge their
friends to try it. Black-
Draught is made of the leaves
and roots of plants. It does not
disturb digestion but stimu-
lates the lower bowel so that
constipation is relieved.

"Texas is sufficiently wealthy to
finance an adequate public school
program," Woods stated emphatical-
ly. "Investment in school property
has increased $68,000,000 in the past
10 years and the state’s school ex-
penditur in 1838 was 810,000 000
more than that of 1028; bat much
more needs still to be done".
“ Praeticar Preparation
He advocated the passage of the
equalimntton and emergency appro-
priatiom bills now being considered
by the state Legislature, and urged
US hearers to confer with legisla-
tors on important measures such
as these. He asked further that his
teacher-listeners center their sum-
mer study around teaching needs
for the next year, rather than to
take advanced subects of a stimulat-
ing nature but .without practical
value in the classroom. He attribut-
ed some weaknesses in the present
school progfam to the fact that
teachers are forced to neglect some
important simple subjects to fill de-
gree requirements in colleges, and
therefore are unprepared to teach
some vital courses.
Dickie urged greater attention to
music and physical education pro-
grams in county schools, and men-
tioned some of the best district ex-
amples of each class of school.
Among these he mentioned that
Denton County has what he con-

conforming our will to God’s, which
is essential if prayers are to be
fruitful."
