Mrs. Mellor said the couple was
also grateful to the hospital staff
and the community for kindness
they received during their brief stay
phies, and stories such as Eden's
stint as a "terrible two" are in-
cluded in the books.
Each student prepared a scrap-
book of his or her own life, begin-
ning with vital statistics from their
birth. Important events in their
lives - the birth of siblings, birth-
days, sports teams, first day of
school, swimming lessons, etc. -
were documented with photographs
A couple who experienced mis-
fortune while traveling through
Panola County has thanked the
community for the kindness they
found here.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mellor of
Donna, Texas, were traveling on
U.S. 79 in January when their
trailer and pickup truck caught fire.
The vehicle was destroyed, and al-
though the couple were not directly
injured in the accident, Mr. Mellor
suffered a stroke later that day and
was hospitalized at Panola General
Hospital.
Libby Elementary principal Glo-
ria Creel asked her students to
write get-well letters to Mr. Mellor,
and within a few hours the school
had collected and delivered hun-
dreds of pictures and letters to the
couple.
This week, the Mellors wrote
back to the students, thanking them
for their letters.
"After he was admitted to our
hospital down here, I put them all
up in his room. Everyone thought
that he was a teacher," Mrs. Mellor
wrote. "We told them what you
children did and all of the staff and

in Carthage.
Mr. Mellor is doing better now
and is no longer paralyzed. But the
effects of the Mellors' experience
in Panola County will remain with
them, Mrs. Mellor said.
"I will never forget your city's
kindness to us," she wrote.
