Chuck Machemehl’s excel-
lent one-hit pitching carried the
Brenham Cubs to a 7-0 win over
the Huntsville Hornets in a dis-
trict game played in Huntsville
Friday. May 8.
Machemehl’s bid for a no-hit-
ter was broken by right fielder
Mike Murray in the sixth inn-
ing. Machemehl faced only two
bafers overthe limit as he al-
lowed only two other base run-
ners, on walks, besides the base
hit After Murray's hit, he was
erased in. a double play by the
Cubs' infield.
Brenham gave Machemehl all
the support he needed when
they came up with a run in the
second inning of play. Singles
by Machemehl. Fred Heide-
mann and Willie .Rosenbaum
sandwiched around a Huntsville
miscue produced the Cubs' first
