intercepted a pass on the Cub
6 yard line that probably saved
another TD against Brenham.
The Tinal score of the game
came with the assist of a Cub
fumble on their own 17 yard
line. Two plays later, with 2:58
left in the game, Mike Murray
capped a brilliant night's per-
formance with a power sweep
from 11 yards out for the TD.
Again Murry kicked the extra
point and it was all over.
he Cub* can chalk this one
up to the battle of a hilarious
exercise in disengagement.
With the way things are shap-
ing up in District 10 AAA foot-
ball, all is not lost for the Cubs
with this first defeat In Dis-
trict play, for it is highly pos-
sible that no team in the dis-
trict will get through undefeat-
ed.
The Cubs can do better.

Lad by their greet quarter-
back. Mike Murray, the Hunts-
ville Hornets unloaded a bar-
rage of stingers that injected a
deep sleep into the Clawing
Cubs of Brenham High, and
when they awoke two hours later
the big score board revealed
the awful truth of what had tak-
en piece during the nightmare
In blaring numbers that read:
Huntsville 22 Brenham 0.
« The Hornets were aroused
with a winning desire for their
first District 10 AAA game of
the 1065 football season and left
little doubt that they had read
the Cubs mall. and were alert
to every opportunity, with a de-
fense that was terrific.
The Cubs were never able to
get a drive going and only once
in the dying stages of the final
period were they able to pene-
trate the Hornet 20 yard line
that looked like anyahing close
to a scoring threat.
The big play of the game that
lit up the sky with its message
of sad news, began erupting
when Murray booted a punt for
80 yards that crawled out on
the Cub one foot line.
From here the Cubs put up a
good fight attempting to get out
of the hole, but two plays later
a blast of thunder from the
Hornet line crashed in and
promptly recovered a fumble on
the Cub 7 yard line. On the next
play, with 8:10 left in the second ■
quarter, Hornet Halfback Joe
Boettcher circled right end for
the score. Murray kicked the I
extra point to send Huntsville 1
ahead 7 to 0.
We thought all the Boettcher*
had moved to Brenham, but no,
they left this one behind to
haunt the Cubs.
With th* opening oT the second 1
half the Cubs sparkled mom- $
entarily bv playing ball control. {
but this formula soon died on J
the vine when they gambled and J
lost the ball on downs on their (
own 36 yard Ine.
Regardless of how the arm
chair quarterbacks analyze the I
decision of the Cubs to go for I
aua the fist, with less than
a yard to make, it was a good
