dies at 77
A stroke suffered Sunday,
Sept. 5, became fatal the fol-
lowing Thursday for W. E.
Rodgers, 77, retired school
teacher of the Oak Grove area.
Mr. Rodgers had suffered
circulatory illness for some
time. He had retired at the
age of 55 after 37 years of

Services were held Satur-
day afternoon, Sept 11, at Hub-
bard Funeral Home in Wei-
mar, led by Jerry Pearson,
minister of the Church of Ch-
rist in Columbus, and Mr.
Rodgers' son Clifton who is
minister of the Lake Jackson
Church at Christ.
Burial was in Masonic Ce-
metery.
Willie Earl Rodgers was
born Jan. 3, 1894, at Oak Gr-
ove, Colorado County, a son
of W. A. Rodgers and Lula
Bowen Rodgers, and was only
18 when he began his teaching
career at Bois d Arc school.
After two years he became
teacher at Frelsburg, where
he stayed 4 years. Then he
was at Willow Springs for 18
years as superintendent. His
final 13 years as a teacher
were back at his home com-
munity’s school Oak Grove,
